David Porter Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 8, 2026.
David Porter 12-29-2025.

Devoted husband of Ann.

Loving father of Holly (Dewey) & Erik (Eva).

Loving stepfather of Katie and Peter (Sue).

Grandaddy of 6.

Great Grandaddy of 7.

The love of David's life was Annie. They traveled the world over dozens of times, bought their dream forever farm in southern Wisconsin, loved their two horses and three dogs, threw hundreds of parties where they welcomed old and new friends in. Everyone was welcome. These friends kept them "young" beyond their years. Most of them were far younger than they in the later years, but David and Annie kept up with them!

The farm was their haven and a place where people felt rejuvenated and sometimes exhausted depending on what you had been doing. Horses, dogs children running, laughing, x country skiing, firefly chasing, hiking, cutting trails, picking strawberries, cleaning up the pond, parties, famous mule rides, eagles' nests and "forced physical chores"(as his children called it) were just some of the activities there. Everything was an adventure and our entire family owes them both a debt of gratitude for the thousands of cherished memories that our kids/grandkids would not otherwise have enjoyed.

David was an accomplished and talented man in the lighting industry for over 60 years. Maybe someone is reading this tribute under one of his fixtures. There were many times he would be in someone's home, and would say, "I designed that". He holds a patent on a light that is still being produced today and was featured in a national publication. Very few people in life get to do what gives them total joy. David had total joy in his career and was exactly where he was destined to be. He was always thinking of something new or looking at something old from a different perspective. His creativity flowed until the day he died.

In his later years David would often remark that he was the luckiest person in the world to have Erik and Holly to assist in this final chapter. While the comments were very much appreciated, it was his children that were the luckiest ones. Every son and daughter should be so blessed to love their father as much as they loved theirs. They will love and miss him forever. It is a void that can never be filled.
