David Potin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Boone Funeral Home, Inc. - Greenville on Dec. 7, 2025.
David Randolph Potin, 83, of Greenville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Allegiance Specialty Hospital in Greenville, MS. He will be laid to rest in Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home.

Randy was born on September 1, 1942, in Metairie, Louisiana, to David Joseph and Elizabeth Alice Potin. He was their oldest son, and he had a younger brother, Richard.

Randy attended school in Metairie and graduated in 1960. He went on to study Chemistry at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he not only earned his degree but also met the love of his life, Louise Jordan. Randy and Louise were married in 1964 and were together for over 61 years.
Soon after they were married, they moved to Greenville, MS and Randy began what would become a dedicated 41-year career with USG in Greenville, MS.

Randy faithfully served as a member of First Baptist Church beginning in 1964. Over the years, he served as a deacon, taught Sunday School, helped install and operate the church's first sound system, and participated in numerous mission trips, including many rebuilding projects after Hurricane Katrina. He had a servant's heart and loved using his talents to bless others.

Talented in many areas, Randy was a gifted carpenter and an early enthusiast of computers. He also spent many joyful years as a dance and wedding photographer, capturing moments he treasured. Golf was another of his passions, and he enjoyed every opportunity to play with his friends, traveling to many tournaments in multiple states – proudly recounting his five holes-in-one at the local municipal golf course.

Above all, Randy adored his family. His grandchildren were among his greatest joys, and he eagerly looked forward to every visit.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard, and his daughter, Beth Potin Marshall.

Randy is survived by his wife, Cara Louise Potin; daughters Michelle Moore (Melvin) and Amy Azar (Chris); grandchildren Faith Gilreath (Pierson), Hope Lee (Hunter), Arthur and Goldie Azar, and Mel Moore (Autumn); great-grandchildren Abby and Ben Moore; and great-granddaughter Daisy Lee.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at First Baptist Church, Greenville in the main sanctuary, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. After the service, you are welcome to join the funeral procession to Greenville Cemetery.

Yesterday

I remember him well and want to send my prayers and thoughts to the family. I was on the outer fringes of being involved in church when J was 12 years old. But somehow I got involved with RA s. Mr Potin was our leader. He took us out to play kickball in the church parking lot under the streetlight. I can still see him kicking the ball, making it fun to be there, and showing us what loving the Lord was all about. Prayers for the family.
