David Scott Reynolds, age 72, of
Charleston, IL passed away on September 6, 2023 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in
Mattoon, IL.
A private memorial service with family will take place at a later date in Pennsylvania.
David was born September 13, 1950, son of Robert (Pat) and Frances Reynolds in Maracaibo, Venezuela. Survivors include his brother Craig (Joan) Reynolds of
Plano, TX; Todd (Gayle) Reynolds of
St. Cloud, FL; sister Cindy (Dave) Cornell of
Mattoon, IL; nieces and nephews Michelle (Jimmy) D'Azevedo, Kelly (Joe) Czajkowski, Christopher Cornell (Tiffany King), Johnny (Jessica) Cornell, Andrew (Amanda) Cornell, Leslie (David) Stiles and Jill Cornell; and numerous grand nephews and nieces. David was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Frances Reynolds; brother, Bryan Arch Reynolds; nephew Bryan Joseph Cornell.
David attended high school at Castle Heights Military Academy in
Lebanon, TN. He then served in the United States Air Force for 6 years from 1971-1977. He received an Associates of Arts degree at Eastern Arizona University, and he received his Bachelor of Arts degree at the prestigious Brooks Institute School of Photography in CA. David worked as a photographer at Walt's Studio in
Mattoon, IL prior to returning to the US Dept of Defense working in security at the National Security Agency (NSA) in Maryland. Because of his photography credentials, he became one of two official NSA photographers where he took many photos of American and foreign dignitaries including Presidential cabinet secretaries.
In addition to his work, he enjoyed photographing nature and still life. His other passion was studying aquatic life and displaying his large aquariums of tropical fish. David belonged to an Astronomy Club on the east coast and used his camera skills to capture some beautiful shots. He was also fascinated with vintage airplanes and had a vast knowledge of them. In his retirement, he moved closer to his family in Illinois where he enjoyed many Sunday dinners full of games, laughter, and visiting.
