David Vincent Richtsmeier, age 92, of Burnsville, passed away on August 13, 2025. David grew up in Wesley, IA and graduated from Dowling Catholic High School in Des Moines, IA in 1951. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1952 and served in the Korean War. As a proud veteran, David, and his son Brian, were members of the October 10, 2022 Honor Flight to Washington DC. After his 1956 honorable discharge, David moved to Minneapolis and started his 33 year career with Norwest Bank. While on separate dates at a bowling alley, he met Marlene. They were married on September 3, 1962. David and Marlene started their family in South Minneapolis and then moved to Lakeville in 1977. In his retirement years, David worked at Lakeville Liquors. In 2012 David and Marlene moved to a senior living community in Burnsville where they made many new friends and stayed active. At the age of 90, David planned a trip to Alaska with his youngest daughter Amy. The trip started with a ride on the Amtrak to Seattle where they boarded the ship, Discovery Princess. This trip mirrored his 1952 journey on the Union Pacific passenger train to San Diego where he boarded the battleship, USS Erben. David loved people. He had a story for anyone who was willing to listen. He loved watching sports, playing cards, spending time with family and friends, and a good meal (with lots of butter). David is greatly loved and will be dearly missed by all. David is preceded in death by his loving wife, Marlene, his parents, Aloysius and Anastasia, and his five siblings. Those left to cherish his memory include his four children: Pamela (Tony) Larson of Lakeville, Janel (Rick) Hipkins of Savage, Brian (Joleen) Richtsmeier of Glencoe, and Amy (Vip) Patel of Solon Springs, WI; his ten grandchildren: Matthew (Kassie), Andrew (Katie), Danielle (Bill), Brandon (Hannah), Megan (Brady), Maria, Olivia, John, Emmett and Nolan; his eight great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at All Saints Catholic Church in Lakeville with a visitation Monday (8/18) from 4-7 PM at White Funeral Home in Lakeville (20134 Kenwood Tr.), and one hour prior to Mass at church. Interment will be held 12:30 PM on Monday August 25, 2025 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to All Saints Church or a charity of your choice.
