David Rickhoff

1936 - 2026

David Claybourne Rickhoff, 89, lovingly known as Gramps to his grandchildren, passed away at Elk Run Assisted Living in Evergreen, Colorado, on March 19, 2026, surrounded by family. David was born on August 31, 1936, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Leo John Rickhoff, Sr. and Fern (Nelson) Rickhoff, and the step-son of Marjorie (Pickle) Rickhoff. David was the loving husband of Karen (Vida) who passed away in 2019. He is survived by his daughter, Alice Rickhoff Carmody (John) and grandsons Declan and Finnegan Carmody; step-son Mark (Margie) Andrist; step-son Master Sergeant Eric Andrist (Laura); sisters, Joan Duncan Jobe and Nancy Fitzgerald (John); brother Dan Rickhoff; and many other family members and friends whom he held near and dear to his heart and communicated with often. David attended high school at Christian Brothers College (CBC) in St. Louis and started college at Regis University before enlisting in the army in 1956. After his service, David completed college at Quincy University in Illinois before starting a long career as a successful shoe salesman.
David was a family man, through and through, and his grandsons, Declan and Finnegan, were clearly his pride and joy. His additional passions for golf, gourmet cooking, and travel often provided great opportunities to entertain family and friends across the country. David also loved Notre Dame football, Cardinals baseball, and most recently, the Delaware Blue Hens basketball team, following almost every game until his passing. The family would like to thank the staff at Elk Run Assisted Living and the caregivers of Mount Evans Hospice in Evergreen, Colorado for their kind care and support. A military burial and celebration of life gathering for the family will be held at Fort Logan Cemetery in Denver, Colorado in May.
