David Christopher George Russ

David Christopher George Russ, born in Los Angeles, Ca on October 31, 1973, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2023 in Santa Maria, Ca. after a short battle with cancer.

David was the third son born to Brenda Joyce Russ and Gerald Loinal Russ. He grew up as one of five siblings in Los Angeles until 1989, when he moved with his father and brother Michael to Santa Maria, Ca. This is where he would finish attending school. From there, he moved on to work in the construction industry. In 1990, David was blessed with the birth of his first daughter Daqueta Chalon. In 2007 David married his forever love, and teenage sweetheart, Janel; whom he had met and befriended shortly after moving to Santa Maria in 1989. In 2009, Janel gave birth to their daughter, Sophia Janae.

Growing up David enjoyed music and "beat boxing" and even created his own album in 1998 called "Crooked I Gang". David's hobbies perfectly reflected his personality. His quiet, thoughtful, and reserved nature lent well to his hobbies of playing Chess, Dominoes, and card games. Fishing was another hobby that he enjoyed with family and friends, but most often with his father-in-law, "Ray".

Everyone that knew David can attest to his loyalty as a family member and friend. He was very thoughtful about other's needs, and he was authentically and wholeheartedly there for those in his life. It was always apparent that nothing was a sacrifice to him because he truly gave with his heart. His greatest joy was being a devoted and loving father and husband.

David's good-natured, warmhearted laugh left lasting impressions, and his smile was unforgettable. He had a humorous side that enjoyed practical joking, and never minded being pranked. Like a magician, he had an unbelievable ability to disappear during group events, and reappear like nothing happened, dumbfounding those around him. This was so uniquely David.

David's life was a beautiful example of someone who let the music in his heart lead the steps in his life. He will never be forgotten but forever remembered and missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents. He is survived by his wife; Janel An'Marie Stewart-Russ; his two daughters, Daqueta Chalon Russ and Sophia Janae Russ; his god-daughter, Endanesia Bolden; his brothers, Gerald Loinal Russ Jr., Mark Anthony Russ, Michael Lafayette Russ; his sister, Crystal McKinley; his father and mother in-law, Lucious "Ray" and Charlynn Stewart; his brother and sister-in-law Marcilius and Christine Stewart; as well as nieces, nephews, and many other extended family and friends.

Services are being held for David on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary, 1003 E Stowell Rd, Santa Maria, CA 93454. The viewing will begin at 10AM, and services will be held at 11:00AM. A burial service will follow at the Santa Maria Cemetery, 1501 S College Dr, Santa Maria, CA 93454.
