David R. Sabel passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at St. Agnes Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 4, 1931 in Fond du Lac, a son of Jacob and Alvina (Petrie) Sabel. He graduated in 1950 from Chilton High School. Dave served 4 years in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed at Great Lakes and then the Navel Air Base in Norfolk, VA. His final two years were served in Port Lyauty French Morocco with an Air-Sea Rescue Squadron. He was honorably discharged in 1955.
Dave attended Barber College in Chicago starting his career which lasted 55 years. Dave married the love of his life, Marian Gutreuter, in 1959.
David was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 664, receiving the Knight of the Month award 3 times, and the Knight of the Year. David was also a lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans. He taught C.C.D. for 10 years and ushered at St. Mary's Church for 51 years. He successfully coached Little League Baseball for several years. He loved attending his children's, grandchildren, and great grandchildren's sporting and school activities. He enjoyed being with his family and the grand and great grandchildren.
David is survived by his wife Marian; daughter Judy (Tim) Whealon; son Dave (Amy) Sabel; four grandchildren Jennifer (Kevin) Deering, Andrea Whealon (Cole), Jacob and Noah (Ashley) Sabel; four great grandchildren Sam, Eva, Jax and Hayden; sister-in-law Betty Lichtenwald; as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents Jacob and Alvina; his in-laws Andy and Martha Gutreuter; sisters Adeline Hoefs, Delores (Eugene) Vollmer, Margie Petrie; and brothers-in-law Jerry (Mary Jean) Schiller and Carl Lichtenwald.
David's family invites friends and relatives to a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, March 17, 2023 at Holy Family Catholic Church at 11:00 AM. Inurnment will take place at St. Charles Cemetery.
