David A. Schaf

David Adam Schaf, age 72, of Borculo, Michigan, passed away February 13, 2026, at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was born in North Dakota to Eileen and Adam Schaaf, who preceded him in death.

Dave proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard, retiring after 20 years and 1 day of service - a detail he always made sure was remembered.

But Dave would have told you his greatest chapter began when he met Jeanne. He often said he was the happiest he had ever been in his life, and she certainly felt the same. Together, they built a life centered around one another, rarely found apart and happiest simply being side by side. Whether fishing up north at their getaway property, taking daily walks, riding minibikes, enjoying a fire, swimming, or spending time with the grandchildren, they did everything together and treasured every moment.

Dave found his greatest joy outdoors and especially in sharing it with Jeanne. He loved woodworking, watching the birds and deer around their home, and spending time with friends, always making sure those around him were having a good time. He was rarely without his dog, Daphnie, and his needy old Spook kitty, both of whom he loved dearly. He also enjoyed NASCAR and the simple pleasure of conversation and laughter with those he cared about.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Jeanne Schaf; children, Amie (Jordan), Bryan (Amy), and Lisa; several grandchildren and a newly born great-grandchild; siblings, Dan, Robert, Jim, Nancy, Carol, and Jane; and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jerry, Phillip, and Glen.

Dave leaves an empty space in many hearts, especially Jeanne's, but he would want his life remembered not with sadness alone - but with gratitude for the time shared, the laughter around the fires, the times at NASCAR, and the love that filled the days.

Visitation will be held Monday, February 23, 2026, at 11:30 a.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 12:00 noon, with a luncheon immediately following at Alas de Aguila Church of Allendale, 6375 Winans St, Allendale, MI 49401.

Cremation has taken place and arrangements are being handled by the family.
