David Grover Shelnutt, 66, passed away on September 15, 2025, at Baptist Medical Center in Montgomery. Born on May 17, 1959, David was a lifelong resident and an active supporter of the community. David was a devout member of Valley Baptist Church, where his passion for gospel music flourished. He was often heard singing in the church choir and was deeply involved in various church activities. His love for sports, especially Alabama football, was unmatched. David enjoyed reporting sports plays and scores for local radio stations, sharing his enthusiasm with fellow sports fans. David attended Lanett High School and was a valued member of the local rescue squad, dedicating time to serve and protect his community. Although he did not pursue higher education, his contributions through his volunteer work and community involvement were significant. He is survived by his mother, Suzanne Shelnutt; daughter, Elizabeth Nevins; grandchildren, Knolyn Smith, Kollyn Shelnutt, Anika Smith, and Jaelah Nevins; sisters, Cindy Bryant (Coy) and Tina Richardson (Ronnie); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover Shelnutt; and Christine Thrower; and brother, Lane Hollis. A memorial service will be held at Valley Baptist Church at 2 pm on Saturday, September 20th. The family will be accepting donations to assist with final expenses. Alternatively, flowers can be delivered to Valley Baptist Church. David's legacy of faith, family, and community will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
