David E. Sherlock, 94, passed away on October 28, 2025. Born and raised in Smithville, IN, he was preceded in death by his father, Avy Sherlock; his mother, Mary Iona Connor; his brother Edward; and his sisters Ruth Heltonburg, Lois Hickman, and Luzetta Frye. He is survived by his sisters Phyllis Hunter and Louise Jones. He was the third of seven children to his mother and father.
On September 3, 1955 he married Evelyn Fern Eads, who preceded him in death in 1999. David and Evelyn had four children. He is survived by a son, J. Nathan Sherlock, MD, (Larry Eakle), and a daughter, Janette Sherlock Milbourn. David was preceded in death by his daughters, Marlene Sherlock May (Roger May) and Joy Sherlock Terrell (Doug Terrell) and by his grandson, Chris May. He is survived by grandchildren Greg May, Chad May, Morgan Rediger, Justin Milbourn, and Korryn Barrow. He is survived by 15 great-grandchildren: Kiara May, Kayley May, Emma May, Jayden May, Suzanna May, Abigale May, Evelynn May, Cannon Rittenhouse, Cora Rediger, Callie Rediger, Nolan Milbourn, Norah Milbourn, Elowyn Milbourn, Benjamin Barrow, and Adalynn Barrow. He is survived by one great-great-grandchild, Ellie Meadows.
David served in the Army during the Korean War as a clerk stationed in Hawaii. He worked for Public Service Indiana for 43 years before retiring. He was an avid collector of and hybridized daylilies, founding the Southern Indiana Daylily Society. He was a member of Highland Village Church.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 2, 2025 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, followed by the funeral service officiated by Pastor Andrew King, at Highland Village Church (515 S Curry Pike, Bloomington, IN 47403). A burial will occur at Clover Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg, Indiana on Monday, November 3, 2025. If you wish to proceed to the cemetery with the family on Monday, please arrive by 9:30 am at Allen Funeral Home (4155 S. Old State Road 37, Bloomington, IN 47401).
