LOWVILLE-David L. Shivers, 75, passed away on Monday December 29, 2025 at Upstate Medical University Hospital, Syracuse after a fall.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn; five children; Ernest Ray (Marty) Shivers of
Tulsa, OK; Jessica Mountjoy of
Tulsa, OK; Kyle (Regina) Giordano of Liberty, NY; Kelli (Jason) Johnson of Camden, NY; Kevin Shivers (Becky) of Utica, NY; two step-children, Lynn (Paul) Little of Lowville; William Riddle of Branford, CT; many grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Howard Shivers of
Big Spring, TX; two step-brothers, Ricky (Cindy) Sutton of Sweetwater, TX; David (Debbie) Sutton of Enterprise, AL; a step-sister, Nancy Richardson of San Antonio, TX; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by four children, Dennis, Christopher Michael, Dawn Marie, and Brandelyn Reese; two granddaughters, Faith Lynn Johnson who passed at birth, and Skylen Shivers; a son-in-law, Chris Mountjoy; and his honorary daughter, Amanda Dudley.
David was born on March 22, 1950 in
Shawnee, OK a son of the late Howard L. and Geraldine Roberts Shivers and graduated from Big Spring Senior High School in
Big Spring, TX in 1967. He enlisted in the U.S, Army, serving from 1967-1969. He worked in law enforcement and security. David went to Tulsa Junior College and Tarrant County Junior College in
Fort Worth, TX. He worked at Home Depot in
Catskill, NY until moving to
Lowville, NY. On November 14, 2009, he married Marilyn J. Giddings at New Life Covenant Church, Carthage with is future son-in-law, Pastor Paul Little officiating. David studied to become a pastor at Nazarene Bible College. He has been on the ministry team of Bethel Church of the Nazarene since 2010.
He was a member of Bethel Church of the Nazarene, Lowville, where he served as a board member. David was a member of the Lowville American Legion Post #162 and was a proud member of the firing squad. He was a member of the Lewis County General Hospital Auxiliary, Search and Rescue. David served as Hospital Chaplin at Lewis County General Hospital. He was a member of the Senior Bowling League at Lewis Lanes, where he will be greatly missed. David was a active member of Singing Waters Seniors group. He was a friend to all and will be forever missed by his family, his church family, his many friends and colleagues.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2025 at Bethel Church of the Nazarene, Lowville with Pastor Paul Little, son-in-law, officiating. A calling hour will be from 10:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. prior to the service, at the church. Burial will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
