It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Richard Simser, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who passed away peacefully in the early hours of Christmas Day, December 25, 2024, the morning after celebrating his 97th birthday. David was at the home of his niece, Belinda Miller, in Medina, TX, where he will be laid to rest in a cemetery currently under construction on the Miller family's land.
David was born on December 24, 1927, in Syracuse, NY, to Jerbin and Harriet (Dehm) Simser, originally from Oswego/Mexico, upstate NY. A proud military veteran, he served as an Air Force Staff Sergeant and Military Policeman, and his adventurous spirit led him to travel the world. In his younger years, David earned the nickname "Dynamite Dave" during his time as a pirate radio DJ in the 1960s- a testament to his bold personality and charisma.
An intelligent, inquisitive soul, David was often referred to as a walking encyclopedia, with a genius-level mind and an entrepreneurial flair. He was a staunch Democrat and a passionate anti-smoking advocate. Though a man of great intellect, he was also known for his sense of humor, always ready with a "Dad Joke" to brighten any gathering. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, like an occasional beer and quality time spent with his family and friends.
David was one of nine siblings and is survived by his sisters Miss Alice, Miss Dorothy, and Miss Margaret. He leaves behind his two surviving children, his next of kin, Donny Melvin Simser (spouse Zelia) and Debbie Ann Simser Grana, along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren- too many to mention but all held dear in his heart.
A viewing will be held on Friday, January 10th, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Primrose Funeral Services in Devine, TX. Graveside Service will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at the Miller Simser Family Cemetery, 265 Browning LN., Medina, Texas, 78055.
David's legacy of wit, wisdom, and love for his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
