David Arthur Sloane, 83, of Quitman, Texas, passed away on September 20, 2025. He was born on May 25, 1942, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Rex Arther Sloane and Farrell Lowery Sloane.

David graduated from Fairpark High School in Shreveport in 1960 and briefly attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, before enlisting in the United States Navy. He proudly served his country from June 1962 to June 1965 aboard the U.S.S. Wasp in Boston, Massachusetts with the following of one year reserve duty. After his honorable release from active duty, David moved to Texas and attended East Texas State University (now Texas A&M University–Commerce), where he earned multiple degrees, including a Master in Science and a Master in Education.

Throughout his career, David held several positions that reflected his dedication to learning and leadership. He served as Chief Engineer at East Texas State University for 10 years, taught in the Magnet Program at Skyline High School with Dallas ISD for 10 years, and later worked for Alcatel-Lucent, which was acquired by Nokia. His work took him across the world, including 4 years in Australia, before his retirement in 2012 when he and his wife settled in Quitman.

David was a faithful member of Sweet Fellowship in Yantis and was active in many organizations, including the Lions Club, a teacher’s fraternity, and the Silver Sneakers group at Rock Solid Fitness in Quitman. He had a lifelong passion for coins, both American and foreign, and he and his wife Linda shared that hobby together through their booth at Between Friends in Mineola, affectionately named Linda’s Memories, David’s Toys.

On January 28, 1966, during a snowstorm in Garland, Texas, David married the love of his life, Linda Floyd. Their marriage of nearly 60 years was filled with devotion, laughter, travel, and countless shared memories. He often said his priorities were clear and unwavering: God first, then his wife, his children, and his country. Known for his determination and generosity, David would do anything for his family—and if he didn’t know how, he would find a way.

David will be remembered as a man of deep faith, steadfast love, and unwavering loyalty to those he held dear.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Rex Arther Sloane and Farrell Lowery Sloane.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Sloane; four children, Kathryn Ann Tinken, Robert Lee Sloane (Joann), Melinda Carol Whitacre (Bob), and Sheri Lynn Odgers (Drake); 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, his faithful companion, Stormy the cat; and numerous cousins and friends.

A Celebration of David’s Life will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Holiday Village Clubhouse.
