David B. Smith

David B. Smith, 78, of Newark, Delaware passed away in the comfort of his home on Friday, March 29, 2024. Born on July 25, 1945, he was one of five sons of the late Harold and Iris (Stalions) Smith.
David, raised in Lancaster, Illinois, was a 1963 graduate of Mt. Carmel High School and earned his Bachelor's Degree from Southern Illinois University. He was employed with Johns-Manville Corporation as a quality supervisor which led the family from Illinois to Georgia, Colorado and New Jersey. However, David was never happier than when he took a leap of faith and established and operated his home improvement business, Homeowner's Helping Hand.
A man of deep faith, David served in leadership roles within the Lutheran Church. He was known for his trustworthiness, honesty and being a man of integrity. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially Sunday afternoon dinners, cruises to warm places in the winter, playing and watching golf, square dancing and traveling the country for dance festivals.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Jeanne Smith and his brother, Nick Smith.
David is survived by his wife of 54 years, Deborah (Ewing) Smith; his children, Nathaniel Smith, Peter Smith and Suzanne Folke (Matthew); his grandchildren, Karen Bean, Mollie Pollack (Hudson), Caleb Smith, Amala Mae Folke, Keanan Folke and Ethan Folke. Also surviving are his brothers, Steve Smith, Tim Smith and Chris Smith.
Funeral arrangements for David will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church, 3003 Silverside Road, Wilmington on Friday, April 12. The visitation will begin at 1:00PM, followed by the funeral service at 2:00PM.
