David Lee Sparkes

David Sparkes was born In Lawrence Kansas on September 26, 1961, to James E. Sparkes and Charlotte M Hoffman/Sparkes. He passed away on February 26, 2026 in Lawrence Kansas.

As a child, David lived in Ottawa, and Oskaloosa Kansas before coming back to Lawrence, where he had spent most of his life.

David's Career Started when he was 14, working for his father installing and servicing HVAC systems. From there he was a laborer for Royal Plumbing until 1981. After that he worked for Patchen Electric Supply until being accepted into the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union in 1983. There he worked on a construction crew for Huxtable and Associates before being put in a service truck doing HVAC service and installs.

In 1990, David worked for Chaney plumbing doing the same work before taking a job with Douglas County as a Maintenance Supervisor at the new County jail in 1999. He spent 16 years there before being asked to be the Director of Building and Grounds for Doulas County.

David left that position in 2021. After that he took a part time job working for Custom Mobile Equipment in Baldwin assembling large fork trucks when he fully retired in 2023. David's best days were when he was working with his hands.

David started dating Debbie Eubanks his senior year in high school. He graduated in 1979. They enjoyed many years together. Memorial services will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are with Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home of Lawrence.
