David Allen Spegal 69, passed away at his home in Fort Sumner on September 11, 2025. David was born on November 11, 1955, in Covington, Kentucky, to the home of Theodore and Mary Helen (McKinney) Spegal.
David honorably served in the United States Air Force. He enlisted at 17 and was a pavement maintenance specialist for four years, earning an honorable discharge on July 29, 1977. Following his military service David went to work as a heavy equipment operator. He worked for K Barnett and Sons Construction for 24 and a half years. In 2017, he transitioned to Crush N It, where he continued to work until his retirement in 2023.
David married his first wife, Betty Lynn Frances, on July 6, 1975. Together, they welcomed their son, Jason. After the passing of Lynn in 1998, David reconnected with his childhood sweetheart and married Deborah Roseberry on February 12, 1999, in Fort Sumner, NM.
David was a member of the old Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Fort Sumner and the American Legion Post at Lake Sumner, where he enjoyed time spent with friends. He cherished his hobbies, including fishing, pitching horseshoes, soaking in the hot tub, and watching University of Kentucky basketball and the Cincinnati Bengals.
David is preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Mary Helen Spegal, his first wife, Betty Lynn Spegal; his sisters, Mary Louise Chelson and Edna Marie Cummins; his brother, Leslie Wade Spegal; and three infant brothers.
He is survived by his wife Deborah Spegal of the home in Fort Sumner, his son Jason Spegal of Fort Sumner, and one brother Theodore Bradley Spegal in Kentucky. He is also survived by daughter Beth (Allen) Wright of Fort Sumner, son James (Darlene) Lawson in Kentucky, as well as grandchildren: Justice Spegal of Alamogordo, NM, Austin James Wright and Erica Wright both of Fort Sumner, along with 9 grandkids, and 4 great grandkids in Kentucky. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Cremation will take place. No services are scheduled at this time. Please keep the Spegal family in your prayers.
