David E. Stairs

1950 - 2023

David E. Stairs, 72, of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at his residence. He was born Sept. 5, 1950, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late James E. and Emma Jean Wilkins Stairs Shreve. Dave was a 1968 graduate of Mt. Pleasant Area High School. Dave engaged in a lifetime passion for the outdoors, enjoyed cultivating his property, and traveled to numerous National Parks and countries. He served as a former member and elder of the Worldwide Church of God and began his work within the Mt. Pleasant community as a young man. Dave started his career as a life agent with The Prudential in 1972, earning his degrees as a chartered financial consultant and certified life underwriter through American College. As a member of NAIFA since 1975, he served as vice president and secretary. President of Stairs Financial Services, Dave began his career with Nationwide Insurance in 1992 and fully retired at the end of 2021. Dave has been active in the local Mt. Pleasant Rotary Club since 1993, serving as past president and secretary. He also served on the Mt. Pleasant Business District Authority Board for several years. He is survived by his wife, Laura M. Yoder Stairs; two sons, Joshua D. Stairs, of Mt. Pleasant, and Nathan I. Stairs, of Anchorage, Alaska; sister, Barbara Ann Wallace, of Mahaffey, Pa.; and brother-in-law, Ronald Stahl, of Acme. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Jane E. Stahl, and a brother-in-law, Richard Wallace. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Bruce Metz officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Kecksburg.
