David Starry Obituary

David L. Starry, 62, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025, after a courageous two-and-a-half-year battle with glioblastoma. Born Aug. 10, 1963, David was a son of the late Stanley and Sarah (Banner) Starry. He is survived by his husband and partner of 40 years, John R. Conway. David was a 1981 graduate of Greater Latrobe Senior High School and Saint Vincent College, where he earned a B.S. in Finance in 1986. Prior to his retirement in 2024, he held the position of Vice President Regional Mortgage Banking at First National Bank in Pittsburgh. He was incredibly proud of his successful banking career, taking great joy in mentoring the next generation of finance leaders. In addition to his work, David enjoyed being a lifelong patron of the arts and served on the Board of Laurel Arts. He was an avid bowler and one time bowled a perfect 300 game. Most important to David were his family, friends, and faith, having been a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Marguerite. His kindness, generosity, unwavering encouragement, and sharp wit will be deeply missed by all those who knew him and loved him. In addition to his husband, David leaves behind a sister, Dianne Weyandt of Latrobe; a brother, Stanley "Pete" Starry, and his wife, Debbie, of Blairsville; a sister-in-law, Helene Conway-Long, and her husband, Tom, of Latrobe; a brother-in-law, Mike Conway, and his wife, Suzanne, of Waxhaw, NC; several nieces and nephews, including Maurice Weyandt (Janice), Marlene Zuzak (Ed), Tracey Cook, Andrea Weyandt, Alexis Tragos (Robert Stockard), Patrick Long, Caela Long (Sarah Muhrer), and Brandie Starry (Jeff Rugh), among others; as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews; and cousins. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and support personnel of Allegheny Health Network's neuro-oncology department and Bridges Hospice for their care and compassion during David's final days. Family and friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025, in LOPATICH-BRINKER FUNERAL HOME LLC, 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 31, 2025, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 260 Bruno Road, Greensburg. Interment will be private.
