 David Wendel Steffen, the son of Irwin and Bernice (Mickelson) was born January 21, 1934 in Linn Grove, IA. His childhood years were spent in the Greenville and Rossie, IA area, where he attended school. 

 David worked on the farm, before being drafted into the U.S. Navy where he served from 1955 until his Honorable Discharge in 1957.   He married Gretchen Mengelsen on January 6, 1967 in Jackson, MN. He continued farming, while working at the Rossie elevator and worked for Clay Central School as a janitor and bus driver for many years up until retirement in 1991. After his retirement they moved to Spencer, IA

 David enjoyed gardening, watching westerns, listening to 50’s music, riding horses, cigars, playing cards, classic cars, spending Sundays viewing countryside’s, picking asparagus & bean walking and especially spending time with family. 

 David passed away at his home on Monday, September 30, 2024 at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his parents. 

 Left to cherish his memory are his wife Gretchen of Spencer, IA; 7 children, Lori (Darcy) Steffen of Spencer, IA, Dan Steffen of Dickens, IA, Angie (Stacy) Steffen of Spencer, IA, Terry Steffen of Spencer, IA; Jim (Teresa) Steffen of Sheldon, IA, Kathy (Mike) Hass of Wahpeton, IA, and Sherry (Ronald) Steffen of Spencer, IA; 5 grandchildren, Dalton, Dylan, and Arianna Mills, Tasha Baas, and Jaydi Steffen; Many Great Grand Children; one sister, JoAnn Treinen of Royal, IA; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
