David Sullivan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by White Funeral Home - Apple Valley on Jan. 24, 2026.
David, a name that comes from the Hebrew word dod, meaning "beloved" or "lover," was a fitting name for David Patrick Sullivan, whose life was defined by love, loyalty, and a deep love for life's simple joys. David passed peacefully and surrounded by his beloved wife and family on December 11, 2025, at the age of 68.

Dave built his life around the people he loved. He met his wife, Theann Lisell, while working at Northwest Airlines, and together they created a home defined by steadiness, laughter, and deep loyalty. Dave showed his love through commitment by working hard, showing up, and always putting family first. He was the proud father of Spencer, Paige, Kate, and Brooke, whom he supported wholeheartedly, encouraging their dreams and standing beside them in every stage of life. Becoming a grandfather brought him immense joy, and he took special pride in his five grandchildren: Otto, Cedar, Nile, Shiloh, and Anna, finding happiness in time spent with them and the simple moments they shared.

David served his country in the United States Army from 1976 to 1979 as a helicopter mechanic, a role that reflected his skill, discipline, and sense of responsibility. He carried those values into his career at Northwest Airlines, which began in October 1986. Known for his strong work ethic and integrity, David remained loyal during the airline strike, refusing to cross the picket line. Following the strike of Northwest Airlines, he continued his career with the Metropolitan Council, where he worked from November 1, 2006, until his retirement on September 5, 2023. He took great pride in his work and in retiring from his "home plant," Empire, after decades of steady dedication.

Although Minnesota became home, David never lost his East Coast roots. Growing up near Boston shaped his love for the coast, seafood, and time spent on the water. Traditions he joyfully carried into his own family through lobster races, boat rides, and long days by the shore. His unmistakable accent, adventurous spirit, and appreciation for the feel of the breeze through his few curly hairs were always part of who he was. He found happiness in boating and fishing, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, tending his garden, enjoying Klondike bars and sweet treats, and watching Wheel of Fortune during family dinners.

David's greatest joy was his family, and the life he built alongside them was one filled with laughter, loyalty, and love. Adventurous by nature, he embraced life fully, from rope swings to attempts on sailing the Mississippi River, always finding joy in the journey. He approached life with curiosity, warmth, and a steady presence that made others feel safe, supported, and deeply loved. Though he is no longer with us, David's light lives on through the values he instilled, the memories he created, and the love he gave so freely. His presence will continue to be felt in shared traditions, familiar laughter, and the quiet moments where his guidance and care remain.

David is survived by his loving wife, Theann Sullivan; his children, Spencer (Becca), Paige (Peter), Kate (Kameran), and Brooke (Calvin); and his cherished grandchildren, Otto, Nile, Cedar, Shiloh, and Anna. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Sullivan; and his siblings, Patricia Shapiro, Regina Long, Fred Sullivan, Paul Sullivan, and Eileen Quattrocchi. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Sullivan.

David's funeral and celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, June 3rd at 11:00am at White Funeral Home 14560 Pennock Ave, Apple Valley, MN following the funeral service there will be an escort to Ft. Snelling for his burial. A celebration of life will be held at American Legion Post 1776, 14521 Granada Dr, Apple Valley, MN starting at 1:30pm.
