David Sweitzer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Addy Funeral Home on Feb. 2, 2026.
With hearts grounded in faith, we announce the passing of David Thomas Sweitzer, age 86, who went home to be with the Lord on January 31, 2026.

David was born on March 14, 1939, in Guernsey County, Ohio, to the late Thomas and Betty Sweitzer. He later met and married the love of his life, Elizabeth "Eleanor" Art, on July 7, 1962. She preceded him in death. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work, raising three sons.

David is survived by his sons David Michael (Lori), Todd Allen (Lisa), and Mark Daniel (Jennifer); his sister, Donna (Tom) Miskimen; his five cherished grandchildren Justin, Katie, Tamsin, Connor, and Ulysses; and his great-grandson Xander, all of whom brought him great pride and joy.

A faithful member of the Newcomerstown Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon for many years, David lived his life guided by Christian values, quiet strength, and devotion to those he loved. He was known for his steady presence, generous heart, and willingness to help others without hesitation.

David found joy in simple pleasures-fishing, hunting, working on cars, and most of all, spending time with his family. Whether working with his hands or sharing time with loved ones, he lived a life of purpose and humility.

While he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort knowing he is reunited with Eleanor and resting peacefully in God's eternal care.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Pinebrook Gardens and Queen City Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion you showed our Dad. We are truly blessed that God placed such loving and dedicated caregivers in his life.

Visitation will be held at Addy Funeral Home on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at at 1:00 pm with M. Gale Yoho officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Newcomerstown.
