David Kurt, better known as "Kurt," was born on February 9, 1965, in Muncie, Indiana, the son of Oral Kent and Kathleen Lou (Harper) Tevault. He married the love of his life Lori Ann Stark on December 10, 1988, at Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in
Newton, Illinois.
Kurt was a member of Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus #1704. He shared his faith through Racers for Christ.
Kurt worked as an over-the-road truck driver for 30 years. For 20 years, Kurt and Lori worked alongside each other as team drivers and spent the last 17 years of their career trucking for Emerson Electric and Sherwin Williams. An accident in 2013 ended his trucking career, landing him in a wheelchair for months. His inner drive to succeed, love of racing cars and unwavering determination put him back on the racetrack after 7 long years.
Kurt's interest in cars started as a young boy alongside his father, Kent, who was a drag racer. Purchasing his first car, a Dodge Charger when he was 15, Kurt quickly became a Mopar man. Racing was in his blood, a passion which he shared with his nephew Cameron that raced alongside him in the 1965 Plymouth Belvedere and good friends Kevin Miller and Jeff Blickensderfer and the countless friends that he made at every track. He was known far and wide for his 1964 Dodge Polara Wagon, 1965 Plymouth Belvedere and his Dodge Charger. He was an avid supporter of racing and held many memberships and titles including, Victory Nostalgic Super Stock Points Series, Nostalgia Drag Racing League (NDRL) and the National Muscle Car Association (NMCA).
A show stopping wheelie and a contagious smile was what Kurt was known for at all the tracks. He was always willing to lend a hand with race parts, advice, and a quick "attaboy".
