David Thorne

Howell David Thorne, 73, Muscle Shoals, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, June 29, 2025. Visitation will be Thursday, July 3, from 11:00 – 12:30 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel with Frank Whitaker officiating. Interment will be in Cherokee Memorial Park.
David was a member of Barton First Baptist Church and a proud employee of Young Welding Supply for forty-two years. He was an especially attentive and loving husband to his wife, Rita, with whom he shared one day short of thirty-five years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Irene Thorne; and sisters, Martha "Mott" Franks, Mary Patton, and Darlene Fuller.
David is survived by his loving wife, Rita Maxwell Thorne; daughters, Michelle Woodis (Norman), Paula Thornton (James), and Brandi Woods (Michael); and brothers, Eugene Thorne (Sue) and Daniel Thorne (Tammy). One of his favorite titles was "Grandfather" to grandchildren, Evan Woodis (Kelsey), Tyler Woods (Madison) and Tristen Woods (Brooke); and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Woodis, Tucker Woods, Carter Woods, Charley Kate Woods, Isabella Woods, Annalise Woods, and Adaline Woods.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Woods, Tristen Woods, Michael Patton, Bradley Swader, Trey Robinson, and Gunner Ford.
The family offers special thanks to Preferred Hospice, Barton and Cherokee Fire Departments, Keller Ambulance Service, and Gunner Ford.
