GARRETT - David E. Tjon, 81, of Garrett, Indiana, passed away on Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, at his Garrett home.
He was born on April 15, 1944, in Bottineau, North Dakota, to Telford and Evelyn (McGrath) Tjon.
David honorably served his country in the United States Navy, and he was stationed in Lemoore, California, as a jet mechanic.
After his time in the Navy, he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of California at Fresno.
He married Gail Tjon on Aug. 22, 1994, in Clovis, California. She resides in Garrett.
David retired from Flint and Walling in Kendallville after 15 years of service. Prior to that, he worked for several years at Grundfos Pumps in Fresno, California, as a facilities manager and then an engineer.
He was a member of Garrett American Legion Post 178 and he served on its executive board for several years. He was also a charter member of the American Legion Riders, serving in officer positions for several years.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Tjon, of Garrett; son, Michael Tjon, of Avilla; stepson and daughter-in-law, Fletcher and Holley Askin, of Hartselle, Alabama; three grandchildren, Abby Tjon, Evan Tjon and Ava Tjon; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jeanette and Roger Kenner, of Leeds, North Dakota, sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Roger Drevlow, of Bismarck, North Dakota; many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
David was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Robert Tjon, James Tjon, Thomas Tjon and Jerome Tjon.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025, from 1-2 p.m., at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 S. Center St., in Auburn.
Funeral services will follow the visitation on Thursday at 2 p.m., at the funeral home.
Burial with military honors will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn.
Memorial donations may be given in memory of David, to Disabled American Veterans.
