David Ottis Townsend February 8, 1934 – May 11, 2013 David Ottis Townsend, 79, of Sevierville, went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Saturday, May 11, 2013. He was a devoted Christian, and a member of Gateway Christian Church. He earned the rank of Specialist in the United States Army as a disabled Korean War Veteran, and retired as the Superintendent of the Sevierville Water Department after 35 years of service. He was also a member of the Free Masons, and earned the degree of 3rd degree Master Mason. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dowe and Maude Townsend, Brother, Wade Townsend, Sister Wanda Faye Townsend King and husband Carroll King, Brother-in-laws, Wayne Cogdill, Tex Cogdill, Don Cogdill, Ben King, and J.D. Styles. Sister-in-Laws, Ruby Styles and Marjorie King, and Daughter-in-law Chrystal Dawn Townsend. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Dell Townsend. Son, Michael David Townsend and wife Teresa. Daughters, Patricia Ann Townsend, Windy Kay French and Husband Gary French, Tracy Lynn Ball and Husband Ricky Ball, and Amanda Styles Mathis and husband David Mathis. Granddaughters, Julia Ruth Ball, Chelsea Gail Townsend, and Faith Lynnanne French. Great Granddaughters, Sheridan Faith Mathis and Olivia Grace Mathis. Brother, Delmar Townsend and wife Dot, and Sister, Beatrice Barnes and husband Claude. Brother-in-laws, Xan Cogdill and wife Betty, Wade "Bood" Cogdill and wife Faye. Sister-in-laws, Dora Faye Cogdill and Mary Cogdill. Many nieces, nephews, and special friends. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Tuesday, May 14, with a funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Minister Ron Blevins, Rev. Mike Beck, and Rev. Chris Barnes officiating. Family and friends will leave Atchley Funeral Home at 9:30 AM Wednesday in procession to Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens for 10 AM graveside service and interment. Military honors provided by American Legion Post 104. Pallbearers David Mathis, Mark Whaley, Lamar McCoig, Philip Maples, Joey Maples, Chris Barnes and Cindy Stinnett. Honorary Pallbearers Johnny Ray Townsend, Ricky Ball, Gary French, and April Jenkins. Arrangements by Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. (www.atchleyfuneralhome.com)
