David Truman Van Norman, age 90, of North Aurora, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at home with his loving wife by his side.
He was born December 27, 1934, in Aurora, the son of Truman and Abigail (Yack) Van Norman.
David was raised in Naperville, IL. He worked as an electrician and estimator for Gregory Electric for 42 years. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. Woodworking was a hobby that brought him joy and allowed him to express his creativity, as he turned countless boards into cherished works that are now family heirlooms. He made everything from toys to furniture. One of his favorite items to make was wooden crosses. (1 Corinthians 1:18) His dedication to woodworking was evident in every joint and finish as well as in the love and attention he put into everything he made. He was a longtime member of Central Bible Church (Aurora) and most recently Chapelstreet Church (Geneva).
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Sondra (Hampton) Van Norman, children Lauri (Robert) Bogart of Glen Rock, Pennsylvania, William (Barbara) Van Norman of Sheridan, Illinois, and Robert Van Norman of Martinez, California; grandchildren Ryne (Brittany) and Christy Bogart, Bradley, Brian, and Blake Van Norman; brothers Daniel, Mark, and Peter (Ruby) Van Norman; sisters Mary (Earl) Applebee, Jane Van Norman, and Beth Kuchler; sister-in-law Peggy Van Norman and Molly Van Norman; and many other dear relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Sarah, Richard, and Timothy Van Norman, and sister-in-law Ann Van Norman.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, November 24, 2025 at 11:00 am at Chapelstreet Church, 2300 South Street, Geneva.
A private graveside service was held at River Hills Memorial Park in Batavia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Chapelstreet Church (Serve the World), 2300 South Street, Geneva, Illinois 60134 would be appreciated.
