David A. Tulp, Media, PA Sound Engineer and Master Woodworker, August 16th, 2020. David Allen Tulp, accomplished sound engineer, musician and master carpenter and wood craftsman from Media, PA, succumbed to his illness after a months-long battle with throat cancer. Dave passed away on Sunday, August 16th, 2020 in Riddle Memorial Hospital, in Media, PA at the age of 60 following a brief illness. David was born in St. Albans, Vermont on May 5th, 1960. He leaves his daughter, Sarah Lynn Tulp of Saco Maine, his mother, Patricia J, of Media, his sister, Bona J. Sylva of Swanton, VT, and his father Dr. Orien Tulp and David's half-sisters Anje' and Andra Tulp of Morrison, Colorado. In addition, nephews Quay Thayer, Logan Yandow and niece Sydney Hamlin and her children Aria, Addison, and David Jr. also of VT. David's late sister Susan Tulp, an artist, preceded him in 2017. David spent his early childhood years in Vermont, where he attended Milton VT elementary and middle schools followed by graduation from Milton HS. It was there that he acquired a guitar at a young age and developed a life-long adoration of music. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of nearby Burlington VT, where was an active member of and contributor to the Youth Group publication of the LP "Acts Alive". David attended Vermont Technical College and the University of Vermont. From there, he spent time in Anaheim, CA and graduated from West Coast University with a complete mastery of electronics, music, and video and cinematography production. David moved to Waterville, Maine briefly, before moving to Media for the remainder of his life. Dave soon made his way into the local music scene and became a sought-after sound engineer. He took over ownership of Paragon Music and began performing sound design and engineering for many local groups for many years, where he provided expert sound support for many venues locally and in the USA and abroad, including. the band Witness, and served as house engineer at Abilene, a club in Philadelphia. Dave's longest tenure was with Slippery band, where he was behind the soundboard for nearly every performance from mid-1997 through 2013. Dave began working with Price Stevenson Acoustic Research and became involved with sound engineering, set-up, and lighting design for concerts, festivals and high school and college musicals and commencements. These include concerts at Rose Tree Park, The West Chester Music Festival, and the Kennett Square New Year's Eve Mushroom Drop. Dave also travelled to Colorado to assist in the sound design of the Colorado Bike Race. Dave has mixed sound in states such as, California, Florida, Arizona, Hawaii, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Colorado and Virginia; as well as in the countries of Bermuda and Montserrat. Dave travelled to Montserrat year after year to provide sound design for graduation ceremonies of The University of Science Arts and Technology, of which his father is the Founder and President. Dave was also a master woodworker and was well known locally for his expertise in woodworking and carpentry skills. He combined this talent with his knowledge of electronics and constructed many pieces of sound equipment and cases. He has built everything from backyard decks to cabinetry to small intricate items, such as wood-inlaid clocks. Dave will be missed and long remembered by many in the local and International community. David was active in community activities and was nominated and approved for the Presidential Volunteer Service Award given by the White House in recognition of his dedicated community service. Dave Tulp was a talented, kind soul who left lasting impressions and memories to all those who shared his life. His unique talents have touched many lives. Gone all too soon. Safe travels and RIP.
