David A. Tulp, Media, PA Sound Engineer and Master Woodworker, August 16th, 2020. David Allen Tulp, accomplished sound engineer, musician and master carpenter and wood craftsman from Media, PA, succumbed to his illness after a months-long battle with throat cancer. Dave passed away on Sunday, August 16th, 2020 in Riddle Memorial Hospital, in Media, PA at the age of 60 following a brief illness. David was born in St. Albans, Vermont on May 5th, 1960. He leaves his daughter, Sarah Lynn Tulp of Saco Maine, his mother, Patricia J, of Media, his sister, Bona J. Sylva of Swanton, VT, and his father Dr. Orien Tulp and David's half-sisters Anje' and Andra Tulp of Morrison, Colorado. In addition, nephews Quay Thayer, Logan Yandow and niece Sydney Hamlin and her children Aria, Addison, and David Jr. also of VT. David's late sister Susan Tulp, an artist, preceded him in 2017. David spent his early childhood years in Vermont, where he attended Milton VT elementary and middle schools followed by graduation from Milton HS. It was there that he acquired a guitar at a young age and developed a life-long adoration of music. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of nearby Burlington VT, where was an active member of and contributor to the Youth Group publication of the LP "Acts Alive". David attended Vermont Technical College and the University of Vermont. From there, he spent time in Anaheim, CA and graduated from West Coast University with a complete mastery of electronics, music, and video and cinematography production. David moved to Waterville, Maine briefly, before moving to Media for the remainder of his life. Dave soon made his way into the local music scene and became a sought-after sound engineer. He took over ownership of Paragon Music and began performing sound design and engineering for many local groups for many years, where he provided expert sound support for many venues locally and in the USA and abroad, including. the band Witness, and served as house engineer at Abilene, a club in Philadelphia. Dave's longest tenure was with Slippery band, where he was behind the soundboard for nearly every performance from mid-1997 through 2013. Dave began working with Price Stevenson Acoustic Research and became involved with sound engineering, set-up, and lighting design for concerts, festivals and high school and college musicals and commencements. These include concerts at Rose Tree Park, The West Chester Music Festival, and the Kennett Square New Year's Eve Mushroom Drop. Dave also travelled to Colorado to assist in the sound design of the Colorado Bike Race. Dave has mixed sound in states such as, California, Florida, Arizona, Hawaii, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Colorado and Virginia; as well as in the countries of Bermuda and Montserrat. Dave travelled to Montserrat year after year to provide sound design for graduation ceremonies of The University of Science Arts and Technology, of which his father is the Founder and President. Dave was also a master woodworker and was well known locally for his expertise in woodworking and carpentry skills. He combined this talent with his knowledge of electronics and constructed many pieces of sound equipment and cases. He has built everything from backyard decks to cabinetry to small intricate items, such as wood-inlaid clocks. Dave will be missed and long remembered by many in the local and International community. David was active in community activities and was nominated and approved for the Presidential Volunteer Service Award given by the White House in recognition of his dedicated community service. Dave Tulp was a talented, kind soul who left lasting impressions and memories to all those who shared his life. His unique talents have touched many lives. Gone all too soon. Safe travels and RIP. I'm so saddened hearing of David's passing. He was a cherished childhood friend whose friendship has had a long lasting effect on me. I consider myself musically inclined having been inspired by David. He mastered any instrument he picked up. It seems like he could play with expertise at least 20 instruments. I still to this day can hear him play rag-time blues. I remember marching aside David in the High School marching band dozens of times in parades in Vermont. I remember when we decided to start a brass band called "Cold Turkey." With David on trumpet, Robert Hollenbeck on sax, Brian Conger on drums, and Robert Morgan and myself on trombone. The Cold Turkey band played at multiple venues in a few counties in Vermont. David taught me the basics in electronics, he could diagnose and repairs electronic circuits. We've hiked a couple hundred miles together, hiking the Long Trail in Vermont a week at a time. We camped at least a dozen weekends as Boy Scouts and as friends each year throughout our teen years. We took snowmobiles or hiked to remote locations in the mountains for a week of winter vacation throughout High School. We were Scouts, whether when doing community improvement projects, or just in our daily moral compass. David's father Orien taught us skills so we could earn our merit badges. To this day the lessons from David and Orien stay with me. If I haven't yet made it clear, again, David Tulp was a good friend who had a life long influence on me. David, may the Lord have favor on you, may His face shine upon you and give you peace. Thank you for your friendship.

We, the family of USAT, will miss David greatly. We appreciated his talents in providing the smooth sound system in all our graduations. He also helped out in many other ways to make the operations of the medical school run smoothly, especially at our graduations, and many other times as well. But beyond this, he was simply a great guy and a good friend. He had a warm, kind personality that made you feel good when you were with him, just as his father has. I know all the professors and staff will miss him greatly.

The first thing that comes to me as David saying is, "I don't know what all the fuss is about" in regards to his own passing. Over the years I came to know David pretty well, as he kept a lot to himself, which took a few years before he shared things. I'll remember him as a friend and super talented guy. Ill remember him dressed in his favorite attire he enjoyed as he did his thing. Well my Friend, we never did make that month trip to the island, but I think you are doing OK. Give me a ranchers and we'll catch up. RIP my friend!

Dr. Orien Tulp: My deepest condolences on the lost of your son. Though I have never met David, I have met his father who is a gentle soul with a caring and open heart. May your grief be soft in knowing that David is no longer suffering and he is singing with the Angels. Keep a warm light burning for him.

Dear David, we of the USAT family will all miss you greatly. Your flawless sound management and production at the commencement ceremonies will be remembered by the thousands of graduates over the years, especially your seamless transition of 'Pomp and Circumstance' to 'Hot Hot Hot' theme song during the processional. That really got the commencement off on a great foot, we were all dancing in our seats. The music and sound production was the best ever. The entire USAT family of friends and family, USAT, Olveston Montserrat, British West Indies.
