David George Turner, 80, of Austin, TX, returned to his Heavenly Father on March 30, 2023, after spending his final days at home surrounded by his family who loved him dearly.
David was born on December 22, 1942, to Mayo and Daryl (Nielson) Turner in Tooele, Utah. He graduated from Cypress High School in 1961, and he went on to study Manufacturing Engineering at Weber State University. David served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western States Mission. After graduating from college, he spent the majority of his career working as an engineer at IBM in Austin, TX starting in 1974 until he retired.
In 1960, David met the love of his life LaVon, and they were sealed together as husband and wife for time and all eternity on January 22, 1965, in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple. David and LaVon enjoyed spending time together doing simple things like looking through old antique stores or grabbing a bite to eat and driving around, in what they called "bumming around." David adored LaVon, and he never uttered a negative word about her during their entire marriage. They had three children, Kent, Jeff, and Kevin. They moved to Austin, TX in 1974 for David's job.
David's children provided him with five wonderful grandchildren. David was the best grandpa and was affectionately referred to as "Bugaboo". David was instrumental in helping to raise his grandchildren. He loved assisting them build their pinewood derby cars, teaching them how to read, taking them to and from school and doctors appointments, telling them stories, and listening to them and supporting them in all of the various aspects of their lives.
After retirement, David lived life to the fullest by spending his time as a loving husband to LaVon, enjoying hobbies like woodworking with his sons, serving others through acts of service like mowing their lawn, but most of all by being a wonderful grandpa caring for and teaching his grandchildren. David was the best storyteller and would often recite stories of events that happened years ago as if they happened that morning.
David was a kind, honest, loving man and a wonderful father. He mirrored and instilled these virtues to his sons and grandchildren through his deeds and words. David will also be remembered fondly for his dedication as a teacher and mentor to the youth at church. We are all better for having been loved by him.
David was predeceased by his parents Mayo and Daryl, brother Jerry, sister Donna, and son Jeff. He is survived by his wife of 58 years LaVon, sons Kent (Elissa) Turner of Sulphur, LA, and Kevin (Isabell) Turner of Round Rock, TX, and grandchildren Travor, Von, Hayden, Rowan, and Nadia, and many other family and friends. David loved all of these people dearly and they will carry on his memory. David had a life well lived.
Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 8140 Racine Trail on Monday, April 3rd, at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at the church prior to the service on Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. David will be laid to rest at the Liberty Hill Cemetery following the funeral services. Arrangements under the care of Beck Funeral Home, Austin, TX.
