David Ugalde Obituary

David Anthony Ugalde

Colchester - David Anthony Ugalde, 64, Colchester, VT, did not go gently into that good night. He fought for every last second as he did not want to leave his family.

Dr. Dave was born in Watertown, MA, October 1st, 1956, to Louis and Isabel Ugalde. The family moved to South Burlington when he was six years old. He graduated from South Burlington High School (GO REBELS) and University Of Vermont.

Dave being a man of many talents, had various occupations. None more so than at People Express Airlines. His personality, wit, and humor, attracted many people to become his life long friends. His love of cooking with his mom led Dave to owning Luigi's restaurant in Vergennes. His last 22 years were employed by Vertek, where his coworkers became his family.

His true calling was his family. Marrying his wife Lucie Paquette aka Juice, and the birth of their daughter, Regan. Dave was the best dad ever.

Dave leaves many broken hearts, his brother Paul and wife Catherine, his sister Margo and partner Matt, and his three nephews, Bryan, Kyle, and Dylan. As well as the entire Paquette family that embraced him, and too many friends to count.

A burial service will take place Wednesday, May 19th, 11am, Lakeview Cemetery on North Avenue, Burlington. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Colchester Vermont Fire and Rescue.

A celebration of Dave's life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Cremation Society of Chittenden County a division of the Ready Funeral Home. Please visit www.cremationsocietycc.com to place on-line condolences.

I am thinking of you Lucie and Regan, especially around this time that marks a year since Dave passed. I can only begin to imagine how much you miss him! Dave was such a bright light. I can´t think of Dave without remembering that time when his visual difficulty set in with one of his eyes, trying to manage medical appointments, work when he was able, and trying to find a little quiet time for meditation and prayer during the day. I hope memories of Dave and his presence in heart and spirit strengths and brings some measure of strength and comfort. May the memory of Dave be a blessing in your lives.

When I’m driving your dream car I feel you, however, you didn’t clean out the garage. That was your part....we’ll talk.

I am so very sorry for your loss. David was always a bright personality. I remember him from growing up (Paul’s little brother) and also from People Express. My heartfelt condolences.

Margo and Paul - so sad and shocked of Dave's passing. He was one of the nicest & funniest guys I have ever met. I had the privilege of helping him while his parents were away install a new garage opener and only Dave could turn it it to a laugh all day and have a few beers "party" and to my knowledge they are still working today. Rest in peace my friend you will be missed. Scott Guay

I was lucky enough to be the same age as David when they moved in next door at age 6 and so the adventure began. He was an instant friend and remained so his entire life. Kind, funny, and probably one of the most popular individuals in our high school class. His passing too early and so suddenly will not doubt be incredibly painful for those left behind and my heart breaks for you Lucie, Regan, Paul, and Margo. He will continue to live large in all our memories. RIP David.

Dave was such a sweetheart. I remember him as kind, fun-loving and a bit of a clown. He embraced life and although I didn’t know his wife and daughter, I am sure he was a wonderful husband and father. He left us much too soon. ❤

I am so sorry Lucie to learn of your beloved husband, Dave’s passing, & your dear dad, Regan. I heard it came quickly. I can only imagine your shock and heartbreak.
It has been some years since I have been with the Saint Andrew’s community. When I was there I was teaching Sunday School. I think Regan you were in my 4th/5th grade class & an older grade too. You were always attentive & well behaved, believe me, I appreciated it!
I met Dave & you Lucie, as Regan’s parents & of course members of the church community. It was enjoyable to be in your presence and Dave & all of you always seemed to have a smile. I could tell you were a close & loving family.
It was during that time that Dave first developed the problem with one of his eyes that brought a lot of difficulty for him & loss of vision in that eye. Dave spoke to me of how much your love and support meant to him Lucie and Regan. He said you were addressing it as a family, you meant the world to him and it made all the difference. Dave was always positive, prayerful and hopeful. You may have expressed Lucie that was not always the case at home and we know that’s human. He put one foot forward at a time to address this unexpected challenge that was scary and painful.
Dave shared with me he had his family, his faith and his church, he had what was important so he would be okay. He asked a lot for prayer and you came as a family for healing prayers.
Dave spoke to me of struggling at work at the time with his loss of vision. It was hard and stressful because he was on the computer a lot with fine detail. He was trying to take 10 minutes each day at work for some quiet, meditative prayer that he hoped would strengthen him and help him. This touched me at the time. I remember it because not many have expressed to me coping with the stress of work and loss through prayer and meditation, in the midst of their work day.
Dave was very down to earth and could just as easily make me laugh as well as having a deeper chat or discussion.
I love the picture you chose of Dave driving. I imagine he will continue to in spirit and that he will be deeply present in your hearts. I know though that the physical loss of Dave is and can only be deeply painful. My prayer is you will go gently taking good care of yourselves one step at a time as Dave wants. He may not be alive in his old body, but he has a new body and is alive now in God.
You will be in my prayers for comfort and strength during this difficult time. My deepest condolences to you Lucie and Regan, to all family members, friends and members of Dave’s church community.

Lucie and Family, I am so saddened to hear of David’s passing. It was an absolute pleasure knowing and interacting with David over the years and getting to see both of you when bringing the pets in for care and of course our encounters outside of there. I hope your sorrow heals rapidly. He will be missed.

Dave I am sure your up there laying out on beach chair, sangria in one hand, picture of your family in the other listening to cat stevens and waiting until you all can all be reunited. I may not be far behind so maybe we can get together and make a pizza or two for old time sakes.
Love Forever,
Bruce

Only the good die young it is said (I would imagine that God needs 'em up there at this point in time) and Dave was one good guy! Kind, sweet, gentle, and funny, he was a joy to know for the relatively short time we knew him, and just on the brink of being eager to get to know him better. Ride that beautiful red convertible at the speed of light now in Heaven, Dave. And continue to take good care of your beloved Lucie and Regan from up there for now. We MISS you.

I’m so sorry for the loss of David. Although I haven’t seen him for many years, I have wonderful memories of him while I was growing up across the street on Victoria Drive. He was so funny, and so cool, that Margo and I were in awe. And whenever I came over to play, he let Margo and I hang out in his space, and always had something funny to say. My father (Sid Poger) and sister (Julia) also send their love. We were lucky to be close to the Ugalde family.
