David N. Van Hoven, age 83 of the Mt. Juliet community, was born on Wednesday, January 21st, 1942, in Montvale, New Jersey, to the late Nicholas W. and Sophie Van Hoven, and passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, July 29th, 2025.

The Funeral Service will be held in the chapel of Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet on Monday, August 4th, 2025, at 03:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service with full Military Honors in Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens with Hudson Frensley, Art Frensley, Jeff Dyblot, Elijah Kolesar, Brad Shoulders, and John Pope serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, August 4th from 01:00 p.m. until time of service.

He is survived by children, Peter (Kelly) Van Hoven and Jana (Art) Frensley: grandchildren, Carson Van Hoven, Catherine Van Hoven, And Hudson Frensley; nieces and nephews, Jeanine, Christy, Paige, and David.

In addition to his parents, was preceded in death by wife of 55 years, Martha Jo Van Hoven; grandson, Rowan Frensley.

Mr. Van Hoven proudly served our country as a Commander in the United States Navy for 23 years and was a Scout Leader for the Cub Scouts. He was devoted to teaching and taught various subjects in education through Metro Nashville Public Schools for over 35 years including biology, science, chemistry, aerospace, and astronomy. David was a lifelong learner, an incredible historian, and as detail oriented as they come. He enjoyed classic cars, planes, trains, boats, and loved nature and traveling. His legacy will continue to live forever in the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him.
