Swansea, Illinois - David C. Volkman, age 76, of Swansea, IL, born on June 16, 1944 in East St. Louis, IL, died on Monday, April 19, 2021 at Memorial Care Center, Belleville, IL.
David was a 1962 graduate of Belleville Township High School, and received his Bachelor's Degree from SIU-E. He taught for 1 year at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic School, worked at Laclede Steel in Madison and Alton, IL and then was the Safety Director for Big River Zinc in Sauget, IL. David was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, a former member of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, and Elk's Lodge #664, Fairview Heights, IL.
He was the best husband, father, grandfather, and brother around! He loved a great joke, the St. Louis Cardinals, Missouri Tigers and a good beer. David was the best joke teller and had a great sense of humor. He loved his family more than anything. We will miss his great smile, quick wit, and friendly conversations. Heaven gained another angel, and he will always be looking down on us.
He was preceded in death by his son in infancy, Bradley Louis Volkman; and his parents, Carl Volkman and Charlotte, nee Saunders, Volkman Walz.
David is survived by his wife, Carolyn Volkman, nee Hoeflinger; his children, Todd (Krista) Volkman of Dallas, TX, and Tracy (Peter) Pace of O'Fallon, IL; his grandchildren, Ava Lillian Pace, and Connor Volkman; and his siblings, Janine (Phil) Medley, Patti Biby, Joy Medley and Jeff (Lisa) Volkman. David is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fairview Heights, IL.
