David Matthew Wambsgans, 61, passed away on Sunday evening, May 19, 2024, with his wife and children by his bedside. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Christine Lopez Wambsgans, and his son, David Matthew II, and daughter, Belicia Wambsgans Alexander (John); David was an amazing grandfather to Shane, Kailyn, Peyton, Steven, and Keith. David also leaves behind his siblings, Brenda Lintinger (Gregory Sr.), Rudolph Wambsgans, III, Michael Wambsgans (Corina), John Wambsgans (Jeanie), and Darnee Wambsgans; his sister-in-law, Margarita Torres (Keith), and brother-in-law, Ralf Lopez (Allison), 11 nieces and nephews and 7 great-nieces and nephew. David was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph Wambsgans, Jr. and Betty "Becky" Barbry Wambsgans, and his grandparents, Rudolph Sr. and Lucy Parks Wambsgans, and Sylvester Sr. and Josephine Descant Barbry.
Born in New Orleans David graduated from Eleanor McMain Senior High School and was a member of Sacred Heart Parish. David was an enrolled citizen of the Tunica-Biloxi Indian Tribe of Louisiana.
David & Christine were childhood sweethearts and after getting married, they lived in Metairie, LA, and eventually moved to Covington, Kentucky. David worked for Johnson Controls and was an enthusiastic volunteer for Holy Cross Schools. David was known for his unwavering loyalty to the sports programs at Holy Cross and remained an active volunteer for years after his own children had graduated.
Career changes led David and Christine to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where they have lived for the last 9 years. In Florida, David worked for GCA Education Services, Inc., where he was responsible for the care & management of their athletic fields. He will be well remembered for his love of hunting, fishing, and boating, and most especially for his love of cooking and his generosity to others. David's kindness fed a person's heart & spirit. His greatest joy throughout his life was his family.
A Celebration of Life mass for David will be held Saturday, June 29, 2024, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 3310 Jefferson Hwy, Jefferson, LA 70121, at 11am. The family requests that donations in lieu of flowers be made in David's memory to the Autistic Self Advocacy Network,
