David William Wandersee, 63, of Kyle, Texas, formerly from Ames, Iowa, passed peacefully Sunday, September 15th, 2024. Graveside services will be at the burial site of his parents at a future date.
David William Wandersee, the son of Robert and Janet Wandersee, was born February 27, 1961 in Ames, Iowa. David enjoyed a fun, active childhood with his older brother Tom, which included many three-day weekends camping in and around the state of Iowa. David was an avid pheasant hunter who had the reputation of being a little too quick on the trigger, not leaving much left for supper. In high school he excelled in woodworking and made some really nice pieces. David participated in football and wrestling all the way through his senior year in high school. Wrestling was his first love and he was given an athletic scholarship to wrestle at Utah State. Tragically, the summer before he was to attend college, David was hit on a motorcycle and suffered a severe head injury. Ironically, it may have been the one and only time David didn't wear a helmet. After three months in a coma, David woke up to a whole new reality. For those that knew David, he was an extremely likable person. Always in a good mood with a smile on his face, and a great sense of humor. That never changed - in fact, those characteristics became even more prominent as the years went on. He never complained, always had a smile, loved to laugh and make goofy jokes. David could light up a room, and did so often. Everyone who knew David, liked David. David's personality always had him trying to chip in and help and he would do so. Working with his brother Tom at his retail store, David couldn't resist returning the grocery store carts to their proper place, and cleaning the parking lot as well. One day, a representative of this large grocery store chain came in and said "We know what David is doing and we want to pay him" - which they did for many years.
Dave's mom and dad were extremely committed to David, making sure he had as good of a life as possible with his special circumstances. David's mom and dad included him in everything and took him everywhere they went and were happy to do so. David was quite capable and mobile for most of his life up until the last few years. After his mom and dad passed away he remained in his home where he had loving caregivers the last two years.
David is survived by his brother Tom, niece Alika Wandersee, nephews Robert Wandersee and Matthew Wandersee. He was preceded in death by his mother Janet Wandersee and his father Robert Wandersee.
Even as a very young man David had always been a very strong Christian, and he is now in Glory with his Heavenly Father.
