David S. Whitehead, age 70, passed away on February 20, 2026. He was born on February 23, 1955, in Sacramento, California, to his parents Josiah and Marilyn Whitehead, and later made his home in Hubbard, Oregon.

David was a highly skilled general contractor for more than 40 years, serving communities throughout Oregon and spending time working in Alaska. He learned much of his skill in construction from his grandfather, who was also a carpenter, laying the foundation for a lifelong career built on craftsmanship and pride in his work. Construction wasn’t just his profession — it was his craft. He was intelligent, capable, and known as a man who handled his business. In many ways, he was like a walking encyclopedia — there wasn’t much he couldn’t explain, build, fix, or figure out. If something needed to be done, he was the one who got it done. He was never a lazy man; he believed in hard work and standing on your own two feet.

The crew who worked alongside him over the years were more than just employees — they became some of his closest lifelong friends, each holding a dear place in his heart. The bonds built on job sites often turned into lasting friendships built on loyalty, respect, and shared hard work.

He was married to Rosie for 35 years and was the father of seven children: Carlos, Eva, Gerardo (preceded in death), Ryan, Tami, Sierra, and James. He was also a proud grandfather to 17 grandchildren.

David loved the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, crabbing, camping, and traveling across the Pacific Northwest — and even to Hawaii — brought him joy. Adventure was in his blood from an early age. At just 15 years old, he and a friend rode their bikes from California to Canada, a story that reflected the determination and bold spirit he carried throughout his life.

After retiring from construction, he poured his energy into caring for his property. He cultivated a large garden, tended fruit trees and rose bushes, and became especially known for growing some of the best watermelons you’d ever tasted. He was rarely seen without his loyal dog, Goose, his right-hand man, who would venture faithfully around the property at his side while Dave rolled along in his golf cart checking on everything. Working the land kept his hands busy and his mind sharp.

David will be remembered as a man who, despite his shortcomings, always showed up when it mattered. He was strong-willed, deeply intelligent, and hardworking — a man who took care of business and left his mark through the things he built and the family he raised. He leaves behind a large family and a lifetime of stories, strength, and resilience that will not be forgotten.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced.

Dad, we hope you are finally at peace.
