David Leon Wilcox died June 4, 2023 at Crouse Community Center in Morrisville, NY.

He was born September 25, 1942 in Sherburne to Charles Henry “Hank” and Ida Christine (Braun) Wilcox. He attended Sherburne Central School graduating in 1960. He then commenced working with his father in his carpentry business where he learned the skills he later passed on to his sons and grandsons. In 1964, he began his 26-year career in the NYS Department of Corrections, serving most of the time at Camp Georgetown. In 1990, he began his favorite occupation, that of doing field work for farmers in Sherburne and in the area around Curtiss, Wisconsin.

David is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marjorie (Symonds); sons Steven and wife Christine (Vroman) of Oxford and Thomas and Dora (Boise) of Curtiss, WI; daughter Karin and husband Phil Day of Earlville; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Charles, Jr. of Waterville; brother-in-law, Wendell Rose of Myrtle Beach, SC; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, a sister, Joan Rose and a brother, Robert.

David was a member of Faith Baptist Tabernacle in Sherburne where he served as trustee.

There will be calling hours on Friday, June 9, from 11am-1pm at the church with a service immediately following.

Charitable contributions may be made to Faith Baptist Tabernacle, 10 Utica Rd., Sherburne, NY 13460; or to the Sherburne Fire Department, PO Box 575, Sherburne NY 13460.

The family would like to express its deep appreciation for the kind, competent and compassionate care provided for him at home and the wonderful staff at Crouse Community Center in Morrisville.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
