David Womelsdorff Obituary

DAVID AUBORN WOMELSDORFF
April 25, 1947 ˜ May 12, 2023

David Auborn Womelsdorff, born on April 25, 1947, in Portland, OR, peacefully passed away in his sleep on May 12, 2023, in Vancouver, WA. He was a devoted and loving husband, beloved father, dedicated military veteran, and a cherished member of his community.
David graduated from Roosevelt High School in Portland in 1965 and immediately joined the US Coast Guard. Throughout his military service, he displayed great commitment and professionalism, receiving multiple commendations. After more than 20 years of dedicated service, he retired as a Chief Boatswain’s Mate. He later worked for many years at Willamette National Cemetery. David enjoyed fishing with friends and family, searching for interesting keepsakes with his metal detector, and collecting clocks, knives and other collectibles.
David loved spending time with his sons James (Christina) of Saint Helens, OR, and Jesse (Kristi) of Florence, TX, and his daughter Jacqueline (Steven) of Umatilla, OR, and their children. Through his wife Nina Mae Lamb, he gained another family who loved him dearly, including stepsons Wade Owens (Lauren) of Vancouver, WA; Tom Owens (Tamra) of Portland and Josh Owens (Sarah), also of Portland, and their children and grandchildren.
David was predeceased by his parents, Clarence David and Jean Louise (Auborn) Womelsdorff; his brother, Mark Auborn Womelsdorff; his wife, Nina Mae Lamb; his daughter, Jennifer L. Womelsdorff; and his granddaughter, Penelope Davenport.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate David’s life will be held on Thursday, June 15, at 10:00 a.m. at the Willamette National Cemetery.
David will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace, knowing his legacy lives on through the memories he leaves behind.

I read about Chief Womelsdorff's death in the Coast Guard Reservist 3-2023. I want to send my condolences to his wife and family, I was Chief Womelsdorff's Command Officer in the Coast Guard Reserves drilling at Swan Island. He was assigned to the small boats at MSO Portland where we drilled. I remember his leadership and his mustache. He was a good shipmate and Coastie. CDR E.W. Van Buren, USCGR ret.

I served with Dave on the USCGC Yocona in the mid 70's. He was a great sailor, had a wonderful sense of humor, and was a good friend. I know that the recent loss of his wife grieved him terribly. I will miss you my friend, especially your laugh. RIP and following seas

We were Dave's next door neighbors for several years in Vancouver. I enjoyed our many conversations over the years. He was very kind to our grandkids when they visited, and always interested in how our family was doing. I will miss him a lot.

David and Nina were our neighbors in Vancouver for many years. David was such a kind man to me and my young family and would often inquire how my kids were doing in life. I will miss him dearly. He has gone home to be with Jesus so I know I'll see him again some day in heaven.
