Obituary

David Ray Wright, 72, died May 28, 2021, at Major Health Partners Medical Center in Shelbyville, Indiana.

Dave was born Oct. 13, 1948, in Shelbyville, to Carl and Helen (Smith) Wright.

He graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1968 and worked locally at General Electric Wire Mill, where he served as union president, and Knauf Insulation. He retired from Knauf in 2015.

Dave had a distinguished coaching and administrative career at Shelby County Babe Ruth Baseball. He was one of the founding fathers, helping build the organization's current home, Donald L. Johnson Memorial Park.

He served as a board member for more than two decades and was president of the organization throughout the 2000s.

In 2002, Dave was inducted into the Babe Ruth Baseball Southern Indiana Hall of Fame.

Dave is survived by his wife, Sandy; daughter, Stacy (Jeff) Brown of Shelbyville; son, Bradley Wright of Shelbyville; son, David (Kim) Wright Jr., of Silver Creek, Georgia; daughter, Jenni (David) Taylor, of Beebe, Arkansas; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Carl Wright and Robert Wright; and his granddaughters, MaKayla Wright and Emma Jean Brown.

Visitation is noon to 2 p.m. Friday, June 4th, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Services, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville.  The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Dr. Robb Barlow officiating.

Burial will be in Whispering Hope Memorial Gardens & Crematory.

Funeral Directors Greg Parks, Sheila Parks, and Stuart Parks are honored to serve Dave's family.

Stacy and Brad I am sorry to hear of the loss of your father. Prayers and thoughts be with you and your families during this time. My memories of your dad are from when we were all in elementary school. Your dad was always nice to me.
