David Wright Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Freeman Mortuary - Jefferson City on Oct. 1, 2025.
David A. Wright, age 71, of Holts Summit, Mo., faced his mortality courageously and stepped into eternity on Sunday, June 8, 2025, reuniting with his parents David Hobart and Letha Ann (Green) Wright.
He was a determined man and once he made up his mind there wasn't a force capable of changing his direction. After decades of smoking, he simply stopped, because he decided to do so. He walked away from a high paying job at Union Pacific Railroad to work as a school custodian until he was hired by the Missouri Department of Transportation, where he worked until he retired - he did this, because he knew an annual income could never replace his family having a present father and husband.
A piece of repeated advice that will continue to guide his daughter, Ashley, is, "You don't have to like people, but you do need to get along." Through all the seasons of life from kindergarten bullies to crappy supervisors, he taught that getting along was separate from a stamp of approval. He also emphasized that job titles, wealth and possessions are not worthy of respect or admiration - the only thing worthwhile about a person is character and if they have a reasonable sense of humor.
David focused on the important things in life, especially the people he loved, which include his caring wife of 41 years, Tammy Wright; his equally strong-willed daughter, Ashley Harris (Jake); his two wild and creative grandsons, Lincoln and Levi; cousin, Jim Branch; and close neighbors and friends, Mike Zimmershield, Jake Fiesler, and Tressa Brady. It's the people we hold closest to our hearts that give this life it's worth and one of those people was our husband, father, Papa, father-in-law, neighbor and friend. Make your days count and spend them with the ones you love.
Services will be private for the family.
