David "Dave" Wright, 84, of Somerset, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 11th, at Somerset Woods Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.
Born and raised in Plainfield, New Jersey, Dave was educated in the Plainfield public school system and graduated from Plainfield High School. In his youth, he shared a close bond with his brothers and friends, spending many happy days enjoying sports cars and lively gatherings.
While serving as a groomsman in his brother's wedding, Dave met the bride's cousin, Joan - the woman who would soon become his wife. After their marriage, he moved to Brooklyn, New York, where he began a career in accounting in the Wall Street area. Four years later, he returned to Plainfield to join his brothers in the construction industry. Dave worked with the New Jersey Carpenters Union, Local #254, in Union County, where he was known for his skill, precision, and willingness to lend a helping hand. Always happy to share how he fixed something, his detailed stories often lasted longer than the repairs themselves.
After the end of his marriage to Joan, Dave later married Maria, and together they made their home in Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey. The couple enjoyed peaceful days in their backyard, taking in the beautiful view from their cliffside overlooking Raritan Bay. Dave was a devoted husband and caregiver until Maria's passing.
In his later years, Dave lived in Somerville, New Brunswick, and Somerset, surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong fan of the New York Knicks and New York Jets, he also enjoyed watching a variety of other sports. Above all, Dave will be remembered for his humor, generosity, and the joy he found in spending time with his family and friends.
Dave was predeceased by his wife, Maria Wright, and his siblings Louise Stokes (Sonny), Idella Christine Van Ness (John), Marjorie Wright, William Wright Jr., Sadie Wright, Gordon Wright, and Richard Wright.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Charlotte Wright; his former wife, Joan Wright; his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Cheray Wright of Somerset; his daughter, Janine Wright, and her loving partner, Alan Payne, also of Somerset; and five cherished grandchildren: Janelle Melecio, Travis Wright, Jadon Melecio, Damon Wright, and Jordan Melecio. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews who will fondly remember him, especially those residing in New Jersey and the Carolinas.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 19th, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street, Somerset, with funeral services beginning at 1:30 PM. Cremation will be held privately.
