Davis Eugene Alford “Gene”, 68, passed on March 5th, 2025, at the NH Veterans Home in Tilton, NH. He was born on October 24th, 1956, in Jackson, MS.
Gene was the husband of Shirley Alford (McCarthy). Gene and Shirley met when the ship Gene was working on in the US Navy was docked in Boston. They married on February 23rd, 1979 in the state of California. Gene was very proud of his service in the Navy, earning the rank of Mess Management Specialist Petty Officer First Class. After his service, Gene worked for the post office in Nashua, NH, where he would later retire from.
Gene and Shirley shared two sons together, Chris and Eric. He was a loving father to them. As a family they enjoyed going on many travels together. He was a proud grandfather to his three grandchildren who loved their silly Papa Geno. His family will remember him as a caring man who was proud to serve his country.
In Gene’s spare time, he was passionate about his woodworking skills. He would build model cars and have them out on display for everyone to see. NASCAR was always his favorite. His family will always hold the model cars he made close to them in his memory.
Gene is predeceased by his father Arthur N. Alford, his mother Velma P. Alford, and his brother, Michael Alford.
He is also survived by brothers Sonny and Ricky; sisters Joyce and Elaine; and his grandchildren Brooke, Evan and Emery.
There will be a Memorial Gathering to honor Gene on Thursday, March 13th, 2025, from 4:00PM-6:00PM at Phaneuf Funeral Home in Manchester, NH.
A service at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH, will take place the following day on Friday, March 14th, at 12pm in the chapel of the cemetery. All are welcome to join the family to honor Gene.
