Dawn Colette Bear Runner was born on August 4, 1969 in Pine Ridge, SD to Donald L. Bear Runner, Sr. and Cordelia Blindman. Dawn made her journey to the Spirit World on September 22, 2023 in Fresno, CA.
Dawn is survived by her mother, Cordelia Blindman; children, Lydia Costaneda, Aaron Lopez, Elaine Paco, Travis Robertson, Emmanuel "Dean" Robertson, Gilbert Havens, Roxanna Arnold, and Silas "Max" Arnold; sisters, Sandra Garcia, Gerita Amador, and Debbie Daniels; brothers, David Harlan, Kenneth No Heart, Cornelius LeClaire, Michael Rough Face, and Daniel Daniels; aunts, Beldine White Eyes; uncles, Ramon Bear Runner and Dennis Bear Runner; grandchildren, Mystique Lopez, Aaron Lopez, Jr., Kyson and Arizona Havens, Brylee Robertson, Ares Robertson, Samuel Gilbert, Leon VonLogan, Alexia Dawn, Alejandro Moses, Jason Reynaldo Jr., Bonnie Marie, Jeremiah "Hunter" Ray, Jaslyn Rae, and Reyna Marie.
Dawn was preceded in death by her father, Donald L. Bear Runner; children, Ceasar Lopez, Reina Lopez, Baby Dawn Garcia, Angel Baby, siblings, Laura (Bear Runner) Sroufe and Donald Leslie "DJ" Bear Runner; maternal grandparents, Charles Blindman, Jr. and Thelma (Lone Wolf) Blindman; paternal grandparents, Oscar Bear Runner and Grace (Rock) Bear Runner;aunts, Leola Bear Runner, Lillian Bear Runner, and Dorothy Sandoval; uncles, Edgar Bear Runner, Harold Bear Runner, and Leslie Bear Runner; and cousins, Colbert Richard, Marty Richard, Liane Adams, Acorn Adams, Liberty Adams, Stella White Eyes, Carol Bear Runner, Edward Bear Runner, Walitaka Bear Runner, Denise Bear Runner, and Mariah Bear Runner.
Pallbearers will be announced.
Honorary pallbearers will be all friends & relatives.
Wake Services: Two night wake service starting at 3:30 PM, Thursday, October 12, 2023 at the Makasan Presbyterian Church Hall in Oglala, SD
Funeral Services: 1:00 PM, Saturday, October 14, 2023 at the Makasan Presbyterian Church Hall in Oglala, SD
Traditional Lakota Services: To Be Announced
Burial Services: Our Lady of the Sioux Catholic Cemetery, Oglala, SD

Dawn.. I just want you to know.. it was a truly a pleasure meeting you.. I never met someone like you.. everything you spoke.. had meaning to it.. I wished I would of paid more attention to your words.. I would of been sure.. to make things right with you.. you truly are loved.. and missed.. it kills me to see how much.. my wife hurts for you.. your memory will always live on.. ill be sure.. to share all my memories with you.. with my kids.. so they know who.. and how strong of a woman.. there grandma was..

Dawn was my street sister but a sister to me she was one of the best I could ever have the pleaser of getting to meet. She was a amazing women that not only I but many other women could all draw strength and confidence from she always had a smile on her face whenever I'd run into her on the streets here in Fresno California on the west side.she was not only only a sister to me but also my therapist. I remember when I needed her guidance for a certain dilemma in my life the advice she gave me I have lived by for the rest of my life and those words were, " If you feel like it's worth it to you that the person is worthy of you then don't give up, no matter what anyone says about want you put up with their not the one you are doing it all for as long as your happy sister I'm happy with and for you.... I'm going to miss her. I love you silent I know your in a better place I'll see you soon sis so save a place for me and Smokey up there...... I LOVE YOU ALWAYS YOU WILL FOREVER LIVE IN MY HEART....

Dawn was the best sister I ever thought I could ever have the blessing to have ever met. She was kind loving and to me the best therapist I could ever ask for she and I met over 10 years ago here in Fresno CA on the west side streets from day one we kicked it off. Not to mention her daughter Lydia and I have also known each other for about the same time. I remember when I was in need of some guidance on how to deal with a certain dilemma she gave me the best advice anyone could ask for "If you feel like it's worth it to you then go for it don't let anybody stand in your way" those are the words that she spoke to me ever since then I followed that way of thinking all my life. I'm going to miss her so much without her there's there's no one else that could ever replace her there's no one else that could ever take her place in my heart I miss you darling as we call her out here silent I know she's in a better place I love you save a place for me and Smokey up there please right next to you.
