Dayl Dian Eckrote

Dayl Dian Eckrote, 79, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Platteville, Wisconsin, to Henry and Virginia (Willis) Long, and lived a remarkable life defined by kindness, generosity, hard work, and deep commitment to her family.

Dayl met Harv Eckrote while attending UW-Stout-it was love at first sight. They were married on April 10, 1965, beginning a beautiful partnership filled with fun and adventure while rooted in a deep commitment to each other and their family. She was the heart of their home-a talented cook, baker, gardener, and seamstress who made life warm and welcoming for Harv and their four children. As the family grew, her love multiplied to include eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dayl found joy in the outdoors. A lifelong swimmer, she relished time spent in and around the water, prompting a retirement move to Bonita Springs, Florida, where she enjoyed the sunshine, travel, and family visits before returning to Wisconsin to be closer to loved ones. She explored the world-from Europe to Hawaii and the Caribbean-celebrating her 60th anniversary with Harv on an unforgettable European cruise.

Back home, Dayl's days were filled with books, friends, laughter, and quiet moments with family. A natural "fixer" she was the glue that held people together and had a rare gift for nurturing friendships and making everyone feel included. Dayl will be forever remembered for her warmth, generosity, and the love she so freely gave-a love that lives on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Dayl is survived by her husband of 60 years, Harv; her children, Thane (Denise) Eckrote, Terri (Erik) Simonson, Traci (Dave) Bauer, and Torri Eckrote; her grandchildren, Kelsey Simonson, Marisa (Brian) Nordland, Gage (Casey) Bauer, Grant Bauer, Makenzie (Sean) Van Helden, Riley (Chandler) Diekvoss, Garrison Bauer, and Grace Bauer; and her great-grandchildren, Ellie and Conrad. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Sharon (Bill) Kracke; brother-in-law, Jim Harker; Harv's sister, Mary Wisniewski; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Michelle Harker.

Dayl's family will celebrate her life privately and would like to thank ThedaCare at Home Hospice for their compassionate care. To honor her, when the spring comes, plant some flowers in Dayl's memory.
