Dayle Veen, age 83 of Milbank, passed away on May 22, 2024, in Milbank.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.
The service will be livestreamed, recorded, and viewable below this obituary.Dayle Robert Veen was born on April 12, 1941, in Milbank. He was the son of George and Esther (Dockter) Veen. He was baptized on July 8, 1941, and confirmed on May 8, 1955, at Emanuel Lutheran Church. He grew up in Milbank and graduated from Milbank High School with the Class of 1959.
After graduating, Dayle worked for Aesoph Road Construction for several years. In 1968, Dayle moved to Minneapolis, MN, and worked as a milk delivery man to a large grocery store for 30 years. He reconnected with Linda (Menze) Vipond in 1996. Dayle and Linda were childhood neighbors and friends, in the same confirmation class, and graduated together from Milbank High School. In 1998, Dayle moved back to Milbank where they were united in marriage on August 15 that same year. Dayle helped Linda with her daycare/preschool until she retired in 2003.
Dayle was a 30-year member of the Lion’s Club in both Milbank, SD, and Bloomington, MN. He served as club president in 1987 and was awarded Lion of the Year in 1988. He was also involved in 4H and various church organizations. In retirement, Dayle and Linda enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending time together.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Tyson Veen of Red Rock, AZ, Talia (Wade) Wacek of Redwood Falls, MN and step-children, Jim Vipond of Milbank, SD; Reenie (Bo) Ivers of Milbank, SD; grandchildren, Miranda (Tony) Ivers, Corah (Carlos) Ivers, Mason Ivers, Michaela (Michael) Jimenez, James McBride, Xander McBride, Derek Wacek, and Dustin Wacek; great-grandson, Malakhi Ivers de Santiago; siblings, Dan Veen of Beaumont, TX, Albert (Terri) Veen of Brookings, SD, Anita Veen of Seattle, WA and sister-in-law, Joan Smith of Milbank, SD.
Dayle was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Veen; his parents, George and Esther Veen; son, Cory Veen; brother, Donald Veen; in-laws, Ted and Marie Menze; and brothers/sister-in-law, Jerry and Jan Menze and Donald Smith.
