Lester B. Johnson was born in Reynolds, Georgia to the parents of Dessie Mae Johnson and Robert Lee Mathis, Sr. He grew up and attended the public schools of Taylor County. As a young man he worked as all other young men did at the time fostering a future life of success.
It was during adolescence he learned of Christ love and decided to follow him. It was at Mt. Gillard Baptist Church he joined and was baptized under Rev. Scott Curry. The bible teaches to “train up a child in the way he should and when he is older he won’t depart” Lester B.returned to the church in his mature years and served faithfully with his time and gifts. It was under the late Rev C. L. Purdue he was ordained as a Deacon. Lester B. was serious about his faith he shared his faith with so many and was quick to say “let me pray for you”.
Innlater years Lester set his sails for Atlanta Georgia and relocated. He made it home and lived out his life. He met the love of his life Shirlnette Lucas Johnson who he married on April 14, 1988 and made her his beloved wife, they lived happy together with their blended family for 33 years until her demise in 2020. It was through this relationship he gained three bonus daughters.
Lester B. Loved and enjoyed in his younger life he suffered a tragic accident that altered his life forever but he never let stop him or slow him down he found ways to fight through it. He was known as the jokester and prankster, he loved to laugh he never life get him down. Hen he was not laughing, he was somewhere trying to find a Little Debbie oatmeal pie one of his favorite, he enjoy hot delicious fired fish too, no one could beat Lester dressing, he loved to dress up and be the best dressed, he was going the be the center of attention once he entered the room looking and smelling his best with his good cologne. He was a football fan and enjoyed a good Falcon or bulldog game.
Lester B. was preceded in death by his mom Dessie Mae Johnson, Father Robert Lee Mathis, Sr. His wife Shirlnette L. Johnson, his daughter Tabatha Kinney, and thirteen siblings who has went on before him.
Lester B. Enter his eternal rest on January 3, 2026 at Emory Mid-Town Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving daughter Cumesha (Antonia) Johnson, two daughters he rested as his Teeunta (Raymond) Vann, Torria Gill, Sisters: Bertha Mae Holt, Margret “Mattie” Mathis, Laura Ann Gibson, one brother: Demon Mathis, one Aunt: Mabel Burk, Son-in-law: Delmon Kinney, sister-in-laws: Julia Lucas, Brenda ( Clarence) Parker, Felicia Locus, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who loved him dearly.
