Dean Allen Friend, 53, of Big Beaver Borough, passed away on May 9, 2026.

Born on May 16, 1972, in Rochester, Pennsylvania, Dean spent his life in Beaver County and built his world around hard work, loyalty, family, and helping anyone who needed him. He was the kind of man who would show up without being asked, give away his last dollar if someone needed it more, and quietly carry burdens for the people he loved.

Dean was a proud Teamster Local 341 CDL truck driver. He could never quite park a Mini Cooper straight at Walmart but put him behind the wheel of a semi with a 53-foot trailer and he could back it anywhere better than anyone around. Driving was more than work to him - it was something he took pride in mastering.

On October 22, 2009, he married the love of his life, Sandra McCann Friend. Together they built a life filled with laughter, music that was always too loud, motorcycles that were always too fast, long drives, family traditions, and a home that was always open to others. Of everything Dean loved in this world, nothing mattered more to him than his family.

He was the proud father of Hayden Elizabeth Friend, age 15, who was truly the light of his life. Hayden stood beside her father through everything, and the bond between them was unmistakable to anyone who saw them together. Dean was a devoted stepfather to Elliot Robert McCann, whom he helped raise from the age of three and loved as his own son.

Dean also shared an especially close bond with his devoted mother, Dorothy Mason, whose love and support never wavered throughout his life. No matter how difficult things became, she was always there to pick him up, stand beside him, and remind him he was never alone. He loved her deeply and carried that bond with him always. Dean was also incredibly close to his cousins, Jimmy and Jeremy, who were far more like brothers than cousins. Their lifelong friendship was built on loyalty, shared memories, laughter, and the kind of connection that only grows stronger with time.

Dean loved riding motorcycles, hunting, the Pittsburgh Steelers, metal detecting and searching for pieces of forgotten history, and building car audio systems loud enough to shake the neighborhood. If there was a stereo involved, Dean believed it should be completely unreasonable. He found joy in simple things, in making people laugh, and in sharing stories with the people around him.

He and his family were members of Clinton Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife Sandra, mother Dottie and stepfather Terry Mason, daughter Hayden, and son Elliot, Dean is survived by his children Josh Mabin, Cameron Bathgate, and Sky Friend, as well as his grandchildren Jayden, Joshua Jr., Layla Grace and Kensley.

More than anything, Dean should be remembered for the depth of his heart. He loved fiercely, protected the people he cared about, and cared more for others than most people ever knew. The world is quieter without him in it, and those who truly knew and loved him will carry his memory forever.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday May 16, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main St. Wampum, with funeral services immediately following. Retired Pastor and Dean's friend Dave Keppen will officiate.

And finally, from his wife:

Dean, I do not know how to do this life without you. You were my home, my safe place, my best friend, and the person who stood beside me through every storm life threw at us. Nobody will ever replace your laugh, your stubbornness, your giant heart, or the way you loved us so fiercely. Hayden and I will carry you with us in everything we do. I hope wherever you are now, you finally found the peace that escaped you here. I love you endlessly, and I always will.
