Dean Hooper Obituary

Dean George Hooper (Smokey), age 74, of Abingdon, MD, passed away peacefully at his home with family by his side on August 25, 2025. Dean (Smokey) was born on August 16, 1951, Dean attended and graduated from Bel Air high school in Bel Air, Maryland. He worked at fork paint and repair doing body work first then painting cars. Then he worked at BG&E for 34 years and he retired from BG&E 2012. Went to Lineman school, but he did not like height transfer to the Gas side works his way up to crew leader, became a contract coordinator. Dean enjoyed fishing, scuba diving, and traveling. He had a liver transplant in 2014. Then in 2020 he got a Heart valve replacement had to go on dialysis. Dean (Smokey) donated his body to science it was his wish not to have a service, in lieu of flowers please think about donating your body to science or donating your organs to help someone live longer. Dean (Smokey) lived 11 more years after he got his liver, and his liver was still working great. Dean is survived by his wife of 53 years Junita Hooper and brother Frederick Hooper (Wanda Hooper) both of Bel Air, MD. And all his nephews and nieces, Great and Great Great nephew and nieces. He is preceded in death by his Parents George Marshall Hooper & Dorothy Carolina Bader his sisters Jean Overbay, Sharon Twiford and brothers Alvin and Gerald Orem.
