Dean Alan Marble, age 82 of Jeffersonville, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2025, leaving behind a legacy built on service, strength, and more than a little mischief. Born to the late Jack Enos and Maude Lucille (Perrine) Marble, Dean spent seven distinguished years serving in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant. The Army Life suited him perfectly-discipline, camaraderie, rules, order, and a no-nonsense approach that became the compass for the rest of his days. When Dean returned home to Indiana, that same steadfast spirit carried him into a remarkable 37-year career in law enforcement, where he retired as Clark County Sheriff. He was proud to support and stand alongside his brothers and sisters in uniform, serving through the Jeffersonville FOP #100, Jeffersonville Masonic Lodge 340 and Clark Lodge #40, the Scottish Rite, and the Shriners. His service and character were recognized with two of the highest distinctions one can receive-Honorable Kentucky Colonel and Sagamore of the Wabash.
With his tall stature and stern look, Dean could put the fear of God into anyone who even thought about causing trouble. But beneath that authoritative presence was a sweet, fun-loving teddy bear who adored kidding around with his buddies and absolutely melted anytime his grandkids came running his way. Dean had many passions, and he embraced each with enthusiasm. He loved old hot rods, car shows, and drag races, and never turned down the chance to hunt for antiques, model cars, or anything he believed was "a steal." He loved to travel and treasured the memories made with family-especially on an Alaskan cruise. But his most meaningful journey was to the Holy Land, where being baptized in the Jordan River deeply transformed his Christian walk and his devotion to studying Scripture. He was a member of Calvary Christian Church, where he quietly and generously blessed others with his gifts of time, money, care, and love. He also loved a good surprise-giving them and receiving them. In fact, you didn't dare walk through the door without a sweet treat or something fun to light up his eyes.
Dean cheered passionately for IU and Notre Dame, and even louder when his grandbabies went there for college! Because if there was one thing he loved more than sports, it was cheering for his people. He enjoyed jammin' to the Golden Oldies, laughing with his friends, and watching his favorite movie, The Christmas Story, complete with his beloved, ridiculous, and absolutely iconic leg lamp. And yes-be careful with it… it's Fra-Gee-Lay!
Dean was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Doris June (Bottorff) Marble, his brother, Vernon "Bud" Marble, and daughter-in-law, Shelley Jo Marble. He leaves behind his children, David Alan Marble (Leaha) and Dawn McCaskill; his treasured grandchildren, Meredith McCaskill Thornton (Patrick), Sydney Tomlin (Nicholas), Alexa and Elle Marble; and his sweet great-grandbabies, Esme and Gideon, who were the newest lights of his life.
