Bainbridge Funeral Home - WheatonIt is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Dean Anthony Schwagel, who departed this life on December 4, 2025, at the age of 75, at Coteau Des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton, South Dakota. Dean was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose kindness, jokes, and gentle spirit touched all who knew him.
Born on July 6, 1950, in Browns Valley, Minnesota, to Norbert “Red” Schwagel and Esther Kruger, Dean lived a life full of love, laughter, and purpose. He was known for his support for family and friends, his sense of humor, and his desire to restore vehicles. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth and laughter that will be remembered by everyone whose lives he graced. Many cherished memories were also made during the years that he owned and ran the Colosseum Dance Hall in Browns Valley.
Dean is survived by his wife, Mary Schwagel; his daughter, Crystal and her husband, Adam Mack, and their two daughters, Veronica and Liberty of Centennial, CO; and his son, Francis Schwagel, and his wife, Karyn Schwagel, and their two daughters Ella and Kathryn of Pinehurst, NC; sisters: Dianne LaFountaine and Debra (Irvan) Frie; and brothers: Leon and Roger (Maureen) Schwagel; as well as many other loving relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dean’s honor to the William Krensing Post 58 American Legion, where he and Mary have shared some great memories.
Dean will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
