Dean Wendell Slothower was born March 9, 1941 to Esther (Darnell) and Belden J. Slothower in Osborne, Kansas. He passed away on November 9, 2025 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Dean was a paint contractor and an artist at his craft, known by many as the best in town and established the Slothower Painting Company in 1969.
On July 2, 1961, Dean married the love of his life Evelyn Ecker in Gaylord, Kansas. He attended Bethany Nazarene College, now known as Southern Nazarene University.
He was a true sportsman who loved all things outside which included hunting, fishing and skiing. He was a loyal fan of the OU Sooners, the Dallas Cowboys and the Oklahoma City Thunder. He was also a private pilot who loved flying his Cessna 170/152. He had a gift for fixing just about anything-and did so quietly and without fanfare.
His love for people and faith led him on mission trips to the Philippines, Switzerland and Guatemala, and he was a devoted member of OKC First Church of the Nazarene.
Dean especially loved spending time with his grandkids and could always be found cheering them on at their games, recitals and all things that made them smile.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Belden and Esther Slothower.
He is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn; sons, Steve (Becky) Blake (Lenee); and daughter, Stephanie Conway (Brent). He was the proud grandfather to Kaitlin Mathewson (Kyle), Kenzie Esparza (Abraham), Mariah Hunt (Christian), Rachel Slothower, Jennifer Bryant (Jeremy), Jamie Slothower, Jessica Hayes (Parker), Mason Conway, Brady Conway and Emmry Conway. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Caleb Bryant, Noah Bryant, Eden Bryant and Holland Hunt.
Viewing will be Wednesday, November 12, from 2-8pm with family present from 4-6pm at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service. A celebration of Dean's life will be held Thursday, November 13, at 2:00p.m. at Mercer-Adams Chapel, with interment following in Bethany Cemetery.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
