Dean Kurtis Sylvester, age 82 of Deerwood, passed away on February 21, 2026 at the Heartwood Care Center in Crosby. He was born on October 4, 1943 in Braham to Clyde and Helen (Erickson) Sylvester. On October 14, 1967 Dean was united in marriage with the love of his life Patricia Mae Lindeen. Dean was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Deerwood.
Dean worked for NCR (National Cash Register) for 40+ years, where he learned to be very mechanically inclined and a natural at fixing anything and everything. After retirement he and his loving wife Pat moved to their beloved weekend home on Bay Lake where they had spent many summer weekends with family, friends (the “Getaway Gang”). They met lifelong friends at Knieff’s Shore Acres. He enjoyed volunteering for Salem West outreach as well.
He was so very proud of his children and grandchildren, cherishing every moment that he spent with them.
Dean is survived by his son, Chad (Kristine) Sylvester of South Haven; his daughter, Jill (Shannon) Martinson of Avon; one brother, Gary (Sonja) Sylvester of CA; five grandchildren and one great grandchild, as well as many other family members who he loved so much.
Preceding Dean in death are his parents; his wife, Patricia; and two brothers, Donald and James Sylvester.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2026 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Deerwood. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Burial will be at the Scandia Cemetery in Deerwood. If desired memorials are preferred to go to Salem Outreach in Deerwood. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
